I’m thrilled by all the positive feedback regarding the Yarn Ball Earring tutorial from last week! Thank you all for tuning in with me as I share Glue and Go Jewelry Tutorials throughout the next few weeks. I may not be a crochet or knitting expert, but I love crafting with yarn. Today we’re taking the earring tutorial to the next level and creating a matching Yarn Ball Pendant Necklace to match.
Supplies for yarn balls to go inside the pendant:
- 1 pony bead for each yarn ball in the pendant – I use Pony Beads from CraftProjectIdeas.com that can be picked up at Walmart.
- Yarn in desired color(s)
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
- Scissors
Additional Supplies for pendant necklace:
- Rectangular Deep Well Pendant Tray with bail attached- I order these online. I have never looked for them in store, so I am not sure if art and craft stores sell them. I have ordered from {THIS ETSY} seller before, or I have found the trays on Amazon (aff link)
- Chain- Mine are 24 inches long, but of course use whatever length works best for you. These can be picked up anywhere that sells jewelry making supplies.
Begin by making several of the yarn balls. I made 7 for my necklace, and I did not keep them the same size. If you’ve made the earrings, then you know the hardest part is making sure he second earring is the same size and shape as the first. That doesn’t have to be a concern for the necklace. The inspiration for the necklace came from the look of yarn when it’s stacked, like this wall art project from Repeat Crafter Me.
Here’s a refresher on how to make the yarn balls. If you read the earring tutorial, then you’ll notice the method for making the yarn balls is the same. It’s just what we do with them at the end that makes it different! 🙂
Begin by tying the end of the yarn around one pony bead through the middle.
Snip the end and insert it through the pony bead middle, using hot glue to secure it in place.
Continue wrapping until the yarn ball is the desired size and the bead is covered.
Check to make sure the yarn ball shape is satisfactory. It may take a few times of wrapping before getting something that you’re happy with! Use hot glue to secure the end at the back of the yarn ball.
Continue making the yarn balls until you’ve reached enough to fill the pendant. It helps to have the pendant handy while making these. That way, you can fill the pendant as you work to see how many are needed and how you want them arranged in the pendant. I used 7 mini yarn balls, but this number will vary depending on how large or small you make yours.
Arrange the yarn balls in the pendant, using the hot glue gun to secure them as you go.
Add the chain and that’s it!

Hi from your neighbor at the Time to Sparkle link party! I am sooo in love with this! I am a crocheter, so this is right up my ally! Great idea, thanks for sharing!
Glad you like them! Thanks for stopping by!
Melanie I absolutely LOVE this pendant! You are so incredibly creative…LOVE!
This is so adorable and creative and just plain awesome! Great job! PINNED!
This is so so cute! I don’t typically make jewelry, but I really really want to try this.
As a yarn addict, I love this idea! Do you have any ideas how to seal it so the yarn doesn’t collect lint and dust and other things?
I know Mod Podge would seal it, but it may make the yarn shiny looking? Spraying it periodically with canned air may also clean out any dust or lint.
WOW . this is great!!! Thinking of making this as gifts for my knitter friends. Thanks it’s GREAT!!
