I love taking my little girl to events and special places. I can honestly say that there are very few places I hesitate to take her. We’ve been to every local zoo, children’s museum, and kid’s festival that I can find. She adores traveling and new experiences. And, even at two, she talks about things that we did months ago as if it were only yesterday. Here she is on a visit to a petting zoo with a new friend she apparently made:
I also love throwing little parties for her. It may be something fancy, like a birthday party, or just a simple play date get-together, but I love bonding with her as she bonds with other kids. Her last birthday party was a huge hit with her and her friends.

However, in all of my efforts, I failed to do one important thing: take lots of pictures. Recently, I’ve noticed that I get so caught up in the event or activity itself that I fail to preserve the memory through photos. I always leave or finish the event thinking, “I wish I had taken a photo of this!” or “She was so cute there- I can’t believe I didn’t have my camera out for quick use!” I have one or two good pictures when I know that there were countless great photo opportunities. I wish that I could take pictures of other people at these events, too, so that my little one would have pictures of all the people that were there for her and her family as she turned from a baby into a little girl.
My “control” personality is great for planning activities for her and our family, but it often makes it difficult to live in the moment. My do-over moment is all the times that I failed to catch that smile, that silly face, that special second in time on photo. From here on out, I pledge to make the most of my camera and capture our families memories on the lens. Planning activities is half the battle, but preserving them for her to remember as she grows is priceless.

I think it is great that you are involved in the event or activity with your daughter, rather than spending too much time behind the camera. I am guilty of taking too many pictures, I have became a Mamarazzi 🙁 Sometimes I think I should be running with my daughter side by side, and not behind her with camera!

I find myself forget to takes pics and also don’t really live in the moment when I’m trying hard to get that good shot!
