I drink tea year round, but nothing makes me crave tea more than a good ol’ head cold. The kids and I have been passing around a cold for the past few weeks, which means I’ve been been drinking multiple mugs of Bigelow I Love Lemon tea a day. The warmth and comfort from a hot cup of tea soothes the throat and provides relaxation at the end of a long, cold day. My mom introduced me to tea in my twenties, and I’ve been drinking it since! Tea is also a nice gift idea for a tea lover. A true tea lover can never have enough varieties of tea to try! The next time someone you know is feeling under the weather, here’s how to create a simple Tea Lover’s Gift Basket, complete with a DIY Tea Lover’s Mug.
DIY Mug Supplies:
- Blank Mug
- Permanent Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Cricut Explore Air 2
- Measuring Tape
Measure the front of the mug and determine how large the words need to be.
Open Cricut Design Space. Design the words, using the measurement that you obtained in the step above.
Cut the words with the permanent vinyl and the Cricut Explore Air 2.
“Weed” the vinyl, which is basically a fancy term for removing the vinyl that doesn’t belong.
Apply the transfer tape over the words.
Transfer the words to the mug, using a scraper to smooth out the vinyl and to ensure that the vinyl has good adhesion to the mug.
When making gift baskets with tea boxes, it can sometimes to hard to maneuver the rectangular boxes of tea in a round basket. Here are a few tips on how to build a Tea Lover’s Gift Basket for a holiday gift or gift for someone who is sick.
Step 1: Assemble all the items ahead of time. This will make sure that you can get everything in the basket without having to pull the items and starting over!
Step 2: Place tissue paper in the bottom of the basket to act as a cushion and filler.
Step 3: Place any pliable items in the back of the basket (towels, etc.).
Step 4: Place taller, box-ier items in the basket next.
Step 5: Place smaller items up front.

So i just read your page eon the heat transfer vinyl and remember you said to make sure you reverse the image, do you need to reverse the image for this? Also could this be done with say a glass water bottle? And i assume hand wash only?
Hi, great question. No, reversing the image does not need to be done with regular vinyl. With the heat transfer vinyl, you care not cutting on the vinyl (you’re cutting on the back of the vinyl); thus the reason HTV projects need to be reversed. With regular vinyl like for a mug or glass, you’re cutting on the right side of the vinyl so you do not need to reverse it.
Yes, using vinyl on any dish = hand wash only. Also, be sure that you have permanent vinyl and not removable.
Happy crafting!
Thank you so much, my boyfriend surprised me with a cricut because I scrapbook a lot and I’m starting to learn all I can do with it! Your enitre site has been an amazing help!
Can the vinyl be used on the I side of the much or would hot tea ruin it?
Sorry the inside of the mug**
I would not use it on the inside of the mug. The liquid would seep under the vinyl and make it peel up, plus I do not think that the vinyl is rated as food safe.
