Who buys tissues in bulk?
WE do!
I never knew the true meaning of being prepared and buying in bulk until we had the triplets. We use a LOT of EVERYTHING. From bananas to eggs to toilet paper (so much toilet paper!), it helps us to have supplies on hand to minimize our costs and risk of running out at the worst times. With cold and flu season upon us, I’ve recently stocked up on our Kleenex inventory. I’m a sucker for cute Kleenex box designs, and I’m happy that our Sam’s Club carries the new boxes. The only downside to buying the bulk size tissues is that it’s hard to stick the big box in my purse. For this reason, I decided to sew a refillable tissue pouch to keep tissues clean and handy in my purse.
Supplies:
- Sewing machine
- Coordinating thread
- Scrap fabric
- Scissors
You can make the pouch in any dimensions that you want, according to the size that will best fit in your bag. I cut three pieces of fabric, (2) 2.5″x7″ and (1) 4″x7″. (There are only 2 pieces of fabric below, I know. But I cut three. Not sure where the third one went.)
Turn under 1/8″ of one long raw edge, then turn another 1/8″ so that the raw edge is completely hidden. Repeat with a long raw edge of the other piece, as well.
Sew closed to the edge.
Right sides together, place the two pieces on top of the one larger piece. Overlap the two pieces on top by about 1/4″. Secure with pins. Trim any excess fabric from the larger piece from the sides.
Sew all the way around with a 1/4″ seam. Trim edges and cut corners.
Turn the pouch right side out. Insert tissues.
