When it comes to shopping for a family member’s birthday, I’m usually pretty on the ball.ย We seem to have birthday groupings in our family- there’s a big group of birthdays in the spring and a big group in August-October. I try to shop throughout the year so that it doesn’t sneak up on me at once. We are lucky to have storage space in our home, and I can save gifts throughout the year for when I need them. However, when it comes to birthday card buying, I am terrible with a capital ‘T’. I never have cards at home, and I wind up whipping the van into the closest dollar discount store (gasp!) for a card to stick on the present. Or I just fold a piece of cardstock up to make a gift tag. Sad, I know. I have always wanted to be more prepared when it comes to birthday cards. Everyone knows that Hallmark cards are the absolute best, but there is not a convenient Hallmark store near my rural home. I’m never at a Hallmark, but I’m constantly at Walmart. So I was happily surprised when I discovered that select Walmart stores now sell Hallmark cards!
On a recent Walmart trip, I pulled out my birthday calendar list. I actually have a separate birthday book that lists birthdays that I need to remember. I jotted down all the birthdays coming up in our family for the next few months and carried that list with me to Walmart. Oh, yeah. I’m stocking up, baby.
One of the great card debates between me and my husband is about the type of card. I like funny cards, but he likes cards that make people cry. Happy tears, not sad tears. We usually wind up buying cards for our own families because we never like the card that the other one of us picks. Hallmark birthday cards are a problem solver for us. They have cards that serve as a ‘happy medium’- cards that have a conversational tone but still appeal to the emotional side. I found four cards that are a perfect fit for the birthdays that we have coming in the future months- one for my sister, one for my husband’s brother, one for my husband’s dad, and one for his mom!
Are those cards not the cutest ever?!? I also like the extra details that Hallmark adds to their cards. The ‘Hallmark’ logo on the envelope hints to the recipient before they open it that they are getting a great card! And Hallmark cards are also printed on recycled paper!
These cards were found in the Hallmark department at our local Walmart. I was surprised at how many Hallmark cards were offered at Walmart!
The cards were priced well. Typically, I correlate the price of the card with the recipient. In other words, I know my husband’s mom keeps all her cards and reads them many times over. So I don’t mind spending more on a card for her. But I will spend less on a card for one of my daughter’s friends who will probably just toss it in the car floorboard. Luckily, the Hallmark department at Walmart has all these needs covered. I will definitely be headed back here to stock up on more cards when these are gone!
For those occasions when price is a factor, Hallmark offers end-of-aisle options that are less expensive but still the same quality.
Want to create a special way for your Hallmark Card recipient to display their birthday smiles all year round? I used the same technique for creating my chicken wire hair bow holder to make a Chicken Wire Card Holder!
The next time a shopping trip takes you to Walmart, head over to the card section. If you’re lucky, a Hallmark department will be there to make sending birthday smiles easier. Stock up while you can!
I love choosing just the perfect card for everyone!
Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, I love your card holder! Ours are always sitting out on the counter until they get in the way… it would be nice to keep the super sweet cards out for longer. Our biggest card occasion seems to be “just because”. (Or perhaps more accurately, my husband’s is, “I’m sorry” LOL.)
Lol thanks!
What cute cards!!!
That bear card is too sweet! I swear, some of those cards are so pretty that I could frame them!
It has always been Hallmark cards since I was young. They have cards for all occasions. I love the designs and color.
That is a big selection at Walmart!

I need to make a point of it. Cards do make gift giving more special
I love the Hallmark section of Wal-Mart and buy all my cards there…they have some great ones!
Melanie, your card holder is AWESOME! I absolutely love shopping for cards and receiving cards…just a great way to celebrate each day! ๐
Out Walmart has had them for awhile now and I love having the choice of the awesome Hallmark cards.
That card with the sewing machine on it is super cute! They’re all cute but I love that one ๐ Hallmark cards are awesome, aren’t they? I love giving and receiving “snail mail”!
Yes the sewing machine one was my favorite, too!
Hi there, I too love hallmark cards. I don’t know if it is the pretty fronts or the beautiful sayings that I love more. I can spend an hour looking for just the perfect card with the perfect saying for each person that I am shopping for. I actually only buy hallmark cards. Even though they can be a little bit more pricey than others, to me it is worth it because the quality is just so much better. Thanks for sharing and the pictures are lovely.
I agree completely.
Hallmark always has the best cards!!
Aren’t they, though?
I love how easy it is to find a card that says just what I’m thinking ๐
I LOVE LOVE Hallmark cards! They are so special!
I also try to go out of my way to find the best cards for people I know appreciate them and keep them. Hallmark really does have the cutest cards now!
Great card holder! My kids love cards and play with them until they are ripped and sad. It’s so great to find a card that they just love.:)
