Welcome to Christmas in July! Have you entered to win the Fashionista Prize Pack yet?
Today I’m sharing an apron that I made for my Christmas in July exchange over at Happy Hour Projects. I went with a kitchen/baking theme, so of course I had to make an apron. I wanted to come up with a unique pattern from scratch, but I’ve had the Cynthia Rowley Simplicity apron pattern lying around since Thanksgiving, so I decided to go with that. Aprons make awesome handmade gifts for the holidays because they are simple, yet present a classy statement.
This pattern is a beginner pattern. I liked the way the pockets were inserted, and I liked the sash. However, for a Simplicity pattern (which is really the only brand I use), I did get a little flustered at some things. For instance:
- The pattern calls for the user to hem the ruffle after it’s sewn on to the apron. Hemming is hard enough without the fabric already being bunched up into a ruffle. I hemmed mine before I attached it and before it became a ruffle.ย
- I like the stitching lines for my trim to not show when possible. In hindsight, I would have sewn the trim on the waistband prior to making the facing so that the trim stitch lines did not show in the back.ย
Other than those minor things, the pattern is easy to follow and I do recommend it to a beginner seamstress!ย
Can you imagine this with some cute accessories and packaging?
