The discussion of a family road trip conjures a myriad of images.
Breathtaking scenery
Stopping for tasty local cuisine
Memorable family time
Ah, seasoned parents, how quickly we forget the other side of a road trip with kids.
Fighting in the back seat
Disagreement on where to stop for lunch
And SO MANY bathroom breaks
As a mom of four, I’ve discovered that preparation goes a long way with road trips. I realize that the mere concept of preparation flies against the grain of what we want a road trip to be. Spontaneous. And while no amount of preparation will extinguish all of the “Are we there yet?” questions, a bit of forethought will lead to a happier and more successful family trip.
Regardless if the trip is planned three months in advance or three days (last month we planned a road trip in twenty four hours), two key elements that I always consider are 1) snacks and 2) road trip games.
Of course, we always play the traditional car games like “I Spy” and “Guess the License Plate,” but printable games like this Road Trip Tic Tac Toe are a fun way to pass the time. Plus, they stash easily in the car in a door compartment or behind the seat.
Instead of pens and pencils, it is fun to use snacks as the tic tac toe pieces.
To grab the printable for your next road trip, right click on the image below to save it to your computer. Once saved, print it off using your home printer in your desired playing card size. While laminating is optional if you have the resources to laminate the cards, it will make them durable for many road trips to come.
Small cups work well in cup holders for securing more than just a drink! I purchased these small reusable cups at the store.
This sounds like the perfect road trip game to keep every one busy and distracted.
We have our first road trip with our little one coming up next month and I am kinda dreading it! My son has never been stuck in his car seat more than 2 hours or so and we are going about 10 hrs away. Eck! I will definitely be bringing some Wild Berry Fruit Loops as a special treat for him to munch on while we are on the road. Plus, I can’t wait to try this new flavor for myself too!
We will have to print this out. We are about to do an8 hour road trip. Snacks are going to spill no matter what so might as well use them.
This is a genius idea! Kids are always playing with their food so why not create a game. We love this cereal too!
