Fourth of July can be tough for little kids. They want to be excited about the holiday and participate, but they also get frightened by the fireworks. I remember sitting with my daughter at the top of a little hill holding her because she was scared of the fireworks, but she didn’t want to miss out on the festivities by going inside the house. So this year I’ve planned ahead and made these Faux Paper Sparklers. Resembling a little firework, they are perfect for toddlers or small kids who want to enjoy the holiday but don’t want to get involved with the real deal. A special thanks to CraftProjectIdeas.com for supplying the craft sticks and fuzzy sticks for today’s craft!
Supplies:
- Foam
- Red Scrapbook Paper
- White cardstock
- Blue cardstock
- Glue
- Yellow fuzzy sticks
- Craft Sticks
- Glue dots- optional, but I found them helpful them attaching the paper to the foam
Cut a 6×6 square from the red scrapbook paper. I used my Silhouette for this because I am TERRIBLE at cutting straight lines, even with a ruler!
Cut a piece of foam approx. 2.5″ by 5.5″. Try to use a spare piece of foam to play around with this step. Depending on the thickness of the foam, your dimensions may be a little different. My foam was very thick.
Wrap the red scrapbook paper around the foam. Secure with glue or glue dots.
Cut stars out of white card stock and blue card stock. Again, I used my handy Silhouette! Glue these to the red front.
Insert the craft stick in the bottom of the foam.
Cut the fuzzy sticks so that they are in 2-3″ lengths. Insert them into the top of the foam.
Get patriotic with your little ones in a non-scary manner! Happy July 4th!
