Have you been to a free movie night in the park? These events have been popping up everywhere over the past few years. And it is easy to understand why. They are free, fun, and perfect for summer. We have a large family, and movie nights in the park are a neat way for us to enjoy a night out with little expense. In our area, movie nights in the park are held at community parks, ball parks, and churches. Part of the appeal of these movie nights are that they can be completely on-the-go, spontaneous events. After all, isn’t that what a piece of what makes summer, summer?
We have several friends who attend movie nights in their community park consistently. I thought that it would be nice to make one of them a gift basket for them to take with them the next time that they visit. This way, they have something close by for when they see a last minute outdoor movie night pop up in their Facebook feed and decide to go! It consist of a few snack and food items, as well as a few things that they can use every time.
#1 Start with a Basket or Crate
I opted for a crate instead of a basket for this gift. The crate is sturdy and reusable, and it holds a large amount of snacks.
#2 A Picnic Blanket
Picnic blankets make for a cute gift and is a must-have for an outdoor movie night. I have learned that even we bring our own lawn chairs to an outdoor movie, the kids wind up on the ground before the night is complete. It is also a nice addition to have for spreading out food and drinks.
#3 Snacks
Every movie night needs snacks! Most of the free outdoor movie nights that I have been to have had no snacks provided or for sale. In this crate, I included all savory snacks. Popcorn and trail mix are always classic favorites. I placed the snacks in individual treat bags and tied them with twine for a cute look.
#4 Drinks and Fun Straws
I think the summer Share a Coke campaign from Coca-Cola™ is so fun! This year, there are 1000+ names available on multiple Coca-Cola™ brands and packages, including first and last names. Who else has favorite memories of sharing an ice cold Coca-Cola™ during summer’s hottest moments?
Throw the drinks in the cooler to Share an Ice Cold Coca-Cola™ anytime.
Grab Share A Coca-Cola™ Classic, Share a Diet Coke®, and Share a Coca-Cola Zero™ at your local CVS. Our CVS is convenient for quick, on-the-go stops. Get 2 for $3 when using the CVS ExtraCard. Share with a friend and save!
#5 Napkins
Napkins are a nice touch since snacks and drinks are included.

My city does it every month! I love this idea so much! It would make everything so much simpler by packing everything in a crate. We love Coca-Cola products so it would be a wonderful addition to our movie night.
This is such a cute idea for a fun summer night! It would make a perfect housewarming gift, too, especially if you live in a town that does movies in the park. I wish ours did. We have our own movie nights at home, though. We can pretend we’re outside!
What a great gift idea. It definitely inspired me to look up local movie nights in the park. Good job not leaving out the napkins. I am napkin queen, especially after eating all that popcorn. Something overlooked in most gift baskets.
What a uniquely fun idea!! I will definitely be taking this and tweaking it a bit to surprise the Hubby on one of these warm Spring/Summer evenings…
What a great idea! We have a nice portable movie projector and I could see adding this to our movie crate along with many goodies!
They just started doing movie nights at our local park last year, and I love the idea of it! Seriously who can afford going out to the movies anymore– especially with a family?
The best part is I don’t have to feel bad about sneaking in snacks like this awesome basket! The napkins are such a simple addition but so smart!
What a fun idea. It reminds me of being a kid and going to the drive in theater in the summers. We would pack a picnic basket full of drinks, snacks, and bug spray. So much fun, thanks for the memory. There aren’t many drive-ins around any more x
We love movie nights in the park. Now that the kids are older we are planning them as much as we can. Great free night for families in our little city. Love this idea for the snacks and drinks!
We love going on a movie night in the park on summer where its not too hot and humid outside. A great time to spend time with our family and enjoying the tasty threats. A time that to catch up with friends and family as well. I like your food basket very clever and neat.
This is such a great idea! I just love summer and all the special, last minute ideas it brings!
We do not have movie nights in our local park. I’d love to talk to my town about getting one started. The kids would enjoy it as much as the parents, I believe.
Ooh I never drink coke except for movie nights. Love the combination of popcorn and coke and this fun picnic idea!
What a great gift idea! I have not been to a movie night in the park, but it sounds like fun!
The only things I would add to your basket is hand sanitizer & bug spray. Glow sticks are fun too! Enjoy the night!
