As a blogger, I find myself tweaking everything and making it my own. Sometimes I forget that there’s nothing wrong with just making something the way that the recipe recommends. While organizing my pantry last week, I ran across a box of Duncan Hines Spice Cake. There was an excellent sounding Old Fashioned Applesauce Spice Cake recipe on the box side panel. I had all the ingredients for everything except the nuts. Lucky me! Well, I guess I should say “Lucky kids and hubby” since I’m on a diet and not eating currently eating spice cake.
I found an almost identical recipe on their website. The only ingredient that was different on the box side panel as compared to the website recipe is the applesauce. In place of the applesauce, the recipe called for a can of apple pie filling. The apple bits that were in the cake from the the pie filling added a nice dimension to the cake. The cake is baked in a 13×9 pan, so it is a large cake that would make a nice dessert for a church function or potluck type of meal.
Visit the website to get the recipe and try this Old Fashioned Applesauce Spice Cake.
