We go through a lot of diapers. And I mean A LOT. When the boys were first born, we went through approximately 30 diapers a day. As they’ve gotten bigger, they can “hold it” longer, so we’ve slacked off to about 20 a day. But that’s still almost a pack of diapers a day. We’ve learned to save money when we can on diapers. I typically purchase the large boxes of diapers in bulk. I have a large storage cabinet in my garage where I keep all my diapers on hand. So when I had the opportunity to create a special diaper cake for a baby shower, I already had the diapers to do the job! This Mustache Diaper Cake pulls double duty– sort of like the diapers themselves. It’s a cute centerpiece PLUS it holds the mustaches for the Baby Shower Photo Booth. I’ve even included the printable down in the post.
Here’s how to create this Mustache Diaper Cake for yourself!
Supplies:
- Parent’s Choice Diapers
- Rubber bands
- Wooden dowels
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
- 10″ cake circle
- Ribbon
- Mustache Printables- I intended to create my own, but then I found these free mustache printables from Love Paper Crafts. They are awesome, and she has a traditional download and SVG file download.
Begin by laying one diaper flat with the BACK side of the diaper facing up.
Roll the diaper.
Secure with a rubber band.
Continue until approximately 36 diapers have been rolled and secure with a rubber band.
Separate the diapers into two groups- one group of 12 diapers and one group of 24 diapers.
With a large rubber band on hand, form 24 of the diapers into a bottom cake layer. Use the large rubber band to secure them in a circle. Place the bottom layer on the cake circle.
Take two of the dowel rods and insert them into the middle of the cake. These will be used to secure the top and bottom layers.
Use another large rubber band to form a circle with the last 12 diapers.
Place the top layer on top of the bottom layer through the dowel rods.
Gather the supplies to decorate the diaper cake and make the photo booth props.
Cut lengths of ribbon to fit around the cake layers. Use the hot glue gun to secure in place.
Hot glue the mustache cut-outs to the dowel rods.
I saved two of the mustaches to glue on the front of the diaper cake itself.
Insert the dowel rods in various places in the diaper cake. I also glued two of the mustaches to the dowel rods that were already in the diaper cake.
Download and print out the Photo Booth saying. It is sized to a 5″ by 7″ frame.
Other than the super cute pregnant mommy, this diaper cake will be the hit of the shower!
I used Parent’s Choice diapers for this diaper cake. A Parent’s Choice survey showed that 3 out of 4 moms agree that they are the same or better than the diaper brand of their choice, especially since Parent’s Choice has made an effort to create a more absorbent diaper and save moms up to $240 over other national brands. See if your Walmart carries the new and improved diapers!
Parent’s Choice diapers can be found at Walmart. Try these with a $1.50 off coupon.
I do use Parent’s Choice diapers for the boys, and I have had no leakage issues with the diapers at all. They have a snug fit around the legs.
Moral of the story? Parent’s Choice diapers make a great choice for a a diaper cake that will actually be usable after the shower is over– without breaking the bank!
