Minnie Mouse Invitations

I think in my rush to re-do my site, I forgot to mention that I closed down my “Minnie Mouse Birthday on a Budget” blog. It was too much to post on it and this one regularly, and poor Minnie Mouse was being neglected. So, I’ll be reposting some of the projects that I had on that blog. Today- I’m showing how I made her Minne Mouse party invitaions.

My first project to accomplish when planning my daughter’s party was to work on the invitations. After all, without invitations to invite people there really isn’t much of a party (and word-of-mouth invites are just not as cute!)
I searched the Internet for some ideas. There are alot of Minnie Mouse party invitation ideas out there, but few have the directions on how to make them, and most are trying to sell their creation. I wanted something super cute but yet simple enough to make on my own without excessive computer printing. Check out the winning invitation and read on for step-by-step instructions on making your own!
Supplies Needed:
  • Black cardstock (8 1/2 x 11 or 12 x 12)- you will need 1or piece per invitation if you re making them with a 6 inch diameter as I made mine (so if you are making ten invites, you will need 10 pieces of black cardstock. It really doesn’t matter what size you purchase.)
  • Coordinating color cardstock- For our party, we are using hot pink (for the current Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Minnie Mouse), but you could certainly use light pink or red.
  • White printer paper- This is for printing the invitation information.
  • Glue sticks
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Coordinating ribbon- This ribbon is for Minnie Mouse invites only. It is used to make her hair bow. Mickey invites can skip this supply.
Step One:
Determine the size that you want the invitation. I made mine with a Minnie Head that was six inches in diameter. I had more wording than normal that I wanted to go on the invite, so to keep it from looking scrunched together, I made the invitation a bit larger than I normally would.

Cut out the Minnie Head foundation using the black cardstock. If you are using a Cricut, this is super easy- just select the correct function and set the dial size to 6 inches.
If you are cutting by hand, you will need to copy a basic Minnie/Mickey head outline, like the one shown here. Use a copy machine or the size feature on Microsoft word to enlarge to head to the size that you want for the invitation. Cut out the Minnie head and use it to trace and cut on the black cardstock.

Step Two:
Cut out a circle to use as an accent color on top of the black Minnie head. I used hot pink. I cut the circles so that they were about 5 inches in diameter. I wanted their to still bit a bit of black visible on the edges.
If you’re using a Cricut, and you have a cartridge that does basic circles, use it again here. I found a jar that was about 5 inches in diameter and used it to trace on the pink paper. I used that was a stencil to make my accent color circles.
Step Three:
Glue the accent color circle on top of the Minnie head, exactly in the center. You can use hot glue or school glue.
Step Four:
Cut a 4-6 inch length from the accent ribbon for Minnie’s bow.
I tried this step 2 different ways. Initially, I wanted to use a hole punch to punch two holes between Minnie’s ears and thread the ribbon through the holes, then tying the bow. This did not work well, and the bow just looked extremely crooked.
What worked better was simply tying the bow and then using hot glue to attach the bow. You can play with the bow placement this way- I placed all mine in the center between the ears, but you could also place the bow on the side in front of an ear.

Step Five:
Print out your invitation information on white printer paper in the font type and font color of your choice. Make sure you include the event, time, date, location, any RSVP details, and any party details. Since our party is a Minnie Masquerade party, we included information on how to dress.
You can print the information for at least two invitations on one sheet of paper. Be sure to leave ample room to cut around it.
Step Six:
Cut out the invitation information in a four inch diameter circle (change the size accordingly to match you invitation size if you’re not using the same dimensions that I used). I used a saucer that was approx. 4 inches to act as a tracing template.
Glue the invitation information in the center of the hot pink circle.
You’re all finished! Repeat the steps to make as many of the invitations as you need. I was handing out most of my invitations, so I did not need envelopes. If you need envelopes, you can purchase these at your local Wal-Mart of craft store. Depending on the size of your invitation and the size of the envelope, you may need to carefully fold the invitation in half for it to fit properly in the envelope for mailing.
