Losing Weight after a Multiple Pregnancy

I’m sharing a little different post today. Instead of a project, I’ll share something a little more personal: Post-baby weight sucks! After my first pregnancy, the weight fell off by eight months or so, but I can’t say that this time around. This multiple pregnancy did a number on me for sure! After a few months of trying to find something- anything- from my closet to wear, and refusing the buy new clothes (isn’t that just giving in?), I finally got serious and am truly trying to give it all I have to lose this extra 20 pounds that the babies left behind. I’m only two weeks into this, but I want to share with you what I’ve learned so far.

Losing Weight after a Multiple Pregnancy

  1. Don’t settle. I’ve had so many awesome people tell me that I look great or that they can’t believe I just had triplets. I truly appreciate the compliments, but deep down I know that I’m not happy with the weight. Those around you mean well, but they don’t have to live in your body. So, if you’re not happy, do something about it.
  2. Learn how to eat. I had never had any problem with weight before this pregnancy, so I never had to learn how to eat. I basically had bad habits of eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Bad, bad, bad! I downloaded an app on my phone called Noom. Noom is a bit like weight watchers in that I can eat whatever I want, but I have a calorie allowance each day. Right now my calorie allowance is 1200. It can go up if I log exercise during the day. I also log my meals to accurately track my calories. I had NO IDEA that I was taking in so many calories before I started this. I had never paid attention to calorie counts on packaging, so I was shocked to see how fast they accrue. Over the past two weeks, I have learned about calories and healthy eating in such a way that this has become a lifestyle change rather than a weight loss plan.
  3. It’s better with a friend. My husband and I have both tried healthy eating in the past, but we have always failed when the other person isn’t on board. It’s almost impossible to eat correctly when your mate is chowing down on a pizza, breadsticks, and cake beside of you. If a spouse isn’t going to be involved, find a friend or someone else to be your support system.
  4. Don’t believe the breastfeed-and-lose-weight hype. I’ll probably get in trouble for saying this, but I have never found this to be true. I’ve breastfeed and/or pumped for at least 6 months with all of my kids, and I have never dropped weight like crazy during that time. Breastfeeding isn’t an excuse to eat whatever and automatically lose weight (like some people make it out to be). A healthy diet are the core values, breastfeeding or not.

I’ve lost 5 pounds so far, and I’m looking forward to dropping the rest off, soon. According to the Noom app, I will be at my goal weight by December 19. Phew. That seems like a VERY long time to be on a 1200 calorie diet!!

Do you follow along on Facebook? I asked my Facebook fans what apps they recommended for weight loss, and here’s a few that they mentioned: Nike Training Club, Lose It!, My Fitness Pal, Weight Watchers. Come over to join in on the conversation, or comment below with your own tips for me!

These are some great tips! I am like you in that I am STILL trying to lose baby weight. You are doing much better than I am, though!

Great post. Thank you for breaking this down. Weight loss is hard enough, I over think it and it stresses me out so I haven’t started yet!

Great article and tips. It’s so hard to lose baby weight, but I agree, don’t settle. Best to lose it right after birth and not procrastinate. Thanks for the tips!

Great post. Congrats on your 5 lbs and keep up the great work . I am trying to lose 40 lbs but it’s slow going. Gotta get back into MyFitness Pal, makes keeping track easy.

I wish I had a device that used apps…..this noom app sounds absolutely amazing! If fall goes the way summer did, December 19 will be here before you know it!

Good tips. I had twins 12 years ago and breastfeeding did seem to help get some of the weight off but not all. You have to eat right and exercise when you are able to. I started working out when my twins were about 2 and still workout to this day to stay fit. I am also trying to eat as clean as possible which helps with the abdominal area – staying toned.

Nice work so far and hang in there! Logging the food has been a huge help for me. And it’s amazing how much more you eat without even realizing it. I’ve now lost the weight from baby #3 after five months with some more to go. I did start off with a low daily calorie limit too (net ~ 1300), but just found it really hard to have enough energy to work out. Strangely enough I actually started losing more weight when I moved that up a bit. Best of luck and congrats on the triplets!

My hubby recommending “shocking” my system by raising the calories all of a sudden one day. If I plateau I may have to try it!
