Our New Year’s trip to St. Simons Island was nothing short of magical! Accommodations are the foundation of a great family vacation. Thank you to The King and Prince Resort for hosting our family during our trip. All opinions are my own.
From the moment my husband and I discovered that we were having triplets, life has been like one big surprise. There are so many things that I never realized about large families. The additional traveling challenges were one of those surprises. With the maximum occupancy of many hotel rooms being 4 persons, we have to look for accommodations with adjoining rooms or suites, a task not as simple as it sounds.
When we are considering a family vacation, my first order of business is to narrow down the area accommodations that offer options for large families. This includes suites for 6+ persons and true adjoining rooms. After this, I view TripAdvisor reviews and Facebook reviews to attempt to narrow down the best places to stay.
For our New Year’s trip, we wanted to head south to a slightly warmer climate. While we are quite familiar with North Carolina and South Carolina beaches, we had never explored the beaches of Georgia. The warmer climate and rich history of the Golden Isles enticed us to St. Simons Island. After thorough research, The King and Prince Resort was our first choice of accommodation, and we were thrilled when they offered to host our family for a few days.
The King and Prince Resort has all of the wonderful amenities that vacationing families desire, but does it fit the needs of a big family? If you follow me on Instagram and caught my Instagram stories from my trip, then you already know the answer. Here are our favorite things about The King and Prince Resort that make it the perfect accommodation on St. Simons Island for families with lots of kids!
#1 The Room Options: The King and Prince Resort offers a variety of accommodation options. We had adjoining rooms. These were two rooms directly connected by a set of doors. Other options for large families include oceanfront suites, beach villas, and resort residences. The adjoining rooms worked great for our family. My husband and I enjoyed a king bed while the kids had a room with two queen beds. Each room had its own bathroom, sitting area, balcony, TV, and storage spaces.
#2 Clean Rooms: Let’s get real for a minute. Small kids roll all over the floor and investigate every nook and cranny of any hotel or resort room. There’s nothing worse than when they discover something yucky that housekeeping missed. No worries of this happening at The King and Prince Resort! The rooms were honestly the cleanest resort rooms that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting, making them 100% mom-approved.
#3 Heated Pool: The generally mild Georgia weather means that spontaneous swimming is always on the table. Even when the ocean temps are too cool for the kids to take a dip, The King and Prince Resort has a large heated pool on site. The resort has a total of three pools. The largest is heated, making it am enjoyable recreational activity even for the beginning of January.
#4 Kid-Friendly On-Site Restaurant: ECHO restaurant is a delicious on-site dining experience. ECHO offers a specialized kid’s menu. Kid’s menu items are quite reasonably priced, and the portion sizes are more than enough to nourish them for more beach play! We tried ECHO for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the kids enjoyed everything that they ordered. The Shipwreck kid’s dessert option proved to be a definite crowd pleaser, too!
#5 Friendly Resort Host: When a rain storm encroached on one of our beach evenings, the resort host caught us when leaving the ECHO restaurant and allowed the kids to pick out a few movies to take back to the room. She was exceptionally nice and wanted to make sure the kids had something to do, even with the rainy weather.
#6 Outdoor Seating Areas: Around the outside of the ECHO restaurant and within the pool area we discovered many sitting areas with plenty of room for large families.
#7 Beach Access: There are direct beach access points on the resort site, making it easy to head to the beach with the kiddos straight from the room.
#8 Close Access to Attractions: St. Simons Island has a variety of activities and attractions. The King and Prince Resort is a central point in the midst of most of them.
#9 Friendly Staff: From housekeeping to reception, all of The King and Prince Resort staff were friendly. I wish that I had done a better job at jotting down specific employee names, but everyone that we met was wonderful! The staff would go out of their way to speak to the kids and make them feel just as welcome as they did my husband and me.
The King and Prince Resort made staying with kids on St. Simons Island easy and welcoming. If a visit to St. Simons Island is on your horizon, strongly consider The King and Prince Resort for your accommodation needs. From weddings to golf to family vacations, The King and Prince has something for everyone!
