Smoothies are my favorite snack to give the kids. Whether they are running in for a quick play break, or scrounging for an after school snack, smoothies are a great way to get way to get protein, fruit, and even sometimes veggies into a snack for the kids. We always seem to have the same strawberry, blueberry, or banana fruit smoothie. Recently, we decided to change it up a bit with a fruit that we do not often have around the house- mango!
Mango is one of the most commonly consumed fruits around the world. Mango contains many vitamins, like immune boosting Vitamin A. In a house with four kids, we need all the immune boosting that we can get!
This particular smoothie is also packed with protein from Greek yogurt and low-fat milk. It is as easy as throwing items into a blender and enjoying.
Of course, anytime kids and smoothies come together, a bit of clean up is always involved. Clean ups can range from tiny to large, but the kids seem to always pull off the largest piece of paper towel possible to clean up even the tiniest of messes. - 1 cup cut mango
- 1/2 cup low fat milk
- (2) tablespoons honey
- (3) frozen Greek yogurt cubes
I avoid using ice cubes by using frozen Greek yogurt cubes to keep this smoothie cold and frothy. I make a large batch in ice cube trays in advance and keep them in the freezer for use throughout the week. Frozen Greek yogurt cubes are simple to make. Take an ice cube tray, insert Greek yogurt in each spot within the ice cube tray, and then place the ice cube tray into the freezer overnight. The following day, break the frozen Green yogurt cubes out of the ice cube tray. Place them into a freezer safe container for storage and use.
Place the cut mango, low fat milk, honey, and 3 frozen Greek yogurt cubes into a blender.
Puree the ingredients until they are smooth and frothy.
Pour into a glass and enjoy. This recipe makes one eight-ounce glass or two four-ounce glasses.
Tip #1: Double the recipe for a quick snack for the entire family or for multiple kids.
Tip #2: No frozen Greek yogurt cubes handy? Use a fourth of a cup Greek yogurt and 1/2 cup ice cubes instead!
