Are summer bonfires a staple in your neck of the woods? We usually have a few at our home, and my husband typically hosts a bonfire and S’mores bar for the teenagers in his youth group. When I started thinking about a fun S’mores bar theme, my mind immediately when to teens and how they love social media. Why not throw an Instagram themed S’moresBar? If kids are going to be on social media anyway, they might as well be on there sharing good ole wholesome fun around a campfire. With a few quick creative tablescape items, an Instagram Themed S’mores Bar is easy to create so that any day can be a S’mores Day!
The Instagram symbol is an iconic camera, and it’s easily recognizable regardless of the color scheme. First, pick out an eye-popping color palette for the S’mores Bar. I went with red, white, and black. I thought that they were classic picnic colors that I could modernize with the Instagram theme.
Begin by creating an eye-catching focal point centerpiece. I used my Silhouette die-cutting machine and the camera cutting file, but the Instagram camera symbol is fairly basic and can be free-handed with minimal effort. Did you know that canvases can be purchased in different colors? I had no idea until recently! I bought the red canvas and hot glued the camera on the front. Notice the wood crate behind the canvas? I’ll let you in on a little secret! Invest in a wood crate, turn it upside down as part of the tablescape, and hide extra S’mores Bar ingredients under there!
Every respectable Instagram S’mores Bar needs a hashtag for proper Instagram sharing. I added mine front and center to the banner. #LetsMakeSmores!
Continue adding Instagram camera shapes to various elements around the S’mores Bar to tie it all together.
Even though the decor is what creates the feel of the S’more Bar, don’t forget to include several options for awesome s’mores combinations!
I’ve always been a fan of the traditional s’mores. It’s Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bars, Honey Maid Graham Cracker Squares, and Kraft’s Jet Puffed Marshmallows for me all the way.
However, I know teenagers like experimenting with different flavor combos. If you’re creating a S’mores Bar for this age group, consider adding a few of these to your tables:
- Hershey’s Caramel Topping
- Hershey’s Miniatures in a variety of flavors
- Hershey’s Special Dark Baking Pieces
- Hershey’s Strawberry Topping
- Fruit
- Coconut Marshmallows
When you have a variety of toppings on the S’mores Bar, there are a vast array of recipe combinations that your party guests can come up with. No one has to have the same s’more. Here is jut one example. A fantastic combo in any dessert is coconut and dark chocolate. Coconut and Dark Chocolate S’mores are a delicious treat.
Begin by adding a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar to a Honey Maid Graham Cracker Square.
Top with a Kraft’s Jet Puffed Marshmallow and a Coconut Marshmallow that has been warmed by a campfire. These pictured below have obviously not been melted over a campfire. I didn’t want my chocolate to melt before snapping my picture, but you get the idea.
Add Hershey’s Special Dark baking chips over the Coconut Marshmallow.
Top with another graham square and caramel sauce.
A word of note: be sure to have sticks for roasting the marshmallows over the campfire. We have these handy little expandable gadgets. A few is all that you need.Everyone can share, and many times there will be a few guests who are intimidated by the fire and prefer to not roast their own marshmallow. Of course, if access to a campfire is not possible, S’mores can be made over a stovetop or in a microwave.
Pick up your s’more ingredients, including Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bars (sold in 6pk at Walmart), Honey Maid Graham Cracker Squares (exclusively at Walmart), and Kraft’s Jet Puffed Marshmallows within the special display at your local Walmart.
I’d love to hear your favorite way to make and enjoy S’mores!
What a cute idea!
So cute and those square marshmallows – brilliant!
