My daughter loves crafting with glitter. Me? Not so much. The last time that she crafted with glitter, I found glitter specks in the hardwood floor joints for months. Yet, when the Christmas season comes around, a few glitter crafts sneak their way into the house. I’m sure the glitter will still be found at Easter, but what is the holiday season without a little sparkly?
Paper mache stars are the perfect medium for glitter. They look lovely on the Christmas tree with the twinkling lights. Here’s how to create a Glitter Paper Mache Star Ornament with as minimal mess as feasibly possible.
Supplies Needed:
- Plain paper mache star ornament – I found mine at a local crafts store
- Small container of glitter
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush or foam brush
- Plastic container – This is important to help contain the mess of creating the ornament.
How to Make a Glitter Paper Mache Star Ornament
Step One
Apply an even layer of Mod Podge over the entire ornament using the paint brush/foam brush.
Make sure that the Mod Podge is not too thin but also not too thick. It should be visible on the entire star but not so thick that it runs down onto the container.
Step Two
Sprinkle glitter over the entire star, covering the Mod Podge completely. Shake the star as you go, to rid the star of excess glitter. This will also make places that need additional Mod Podge or glitter more evident.
Step Three
Allow the star to dry completely. Be careful where placing the star to dry so that the Mod Podge and glitter does not rub off. If possible, hanging the ornament in a strategic spot is the best option.
Look over the ornament to make sure that there are no bare spots without glitter.
That’s it!
