Did you marry an outdoorsman? I definitely did. And while I’ve been known to bait my own fish hook, I still am a novice when it comes to wilderness and outdoor adventure. I can always count on an outdoors themed gift to be a hit with my husband for the holidays, but in the past I have always been at a loss for what to buy. The choice of outdoorsmen gifts can seem overwhelming. There seem to be different specifications and large varieties for every item. I’m left with the questions of “why is this so expensive?” and “will he even use this?”
Last year, I stopped shopping broadly on the internet and started looking for specific items. And they were some of the best gifts that I have ever given him for the holidays! Today, I’m sharing gift ideas for an outdoorsmen that you can purchase even if you personally know nothing about the outdoorsman life.
#1 A high quality flannel shirt. There is a definite difference between cheap flannel shirts and high quality ones. High quality flannels wash better and have better longevity.
#2 Durable pants. My husband does a number on all of his work and outdoor pants. From working outdoors to hiking, durable pants are a must!
#3 Boots/shoes. My husband likes shoes that can go from work to outdoor. Traditional hiking boots are not as versatile as a pair of shoes that can be worn with a casual outfit then head straight for a hike. His new favorites are the ones pictured above (Columbia brand).
#4 Versatile vest. The vest pictured above is a game changer! My hubby doesn’t care for the puffer style vests, but the Burly Man Vest from Patagonia is a staple in his wardrobe. It has multiple pockets and is great for work or hike.
#5 Hatchets/knifes. It doesn’t matter how many hatchets or knifes an outdoorsman acquires; they are never enough! Take the gift to the next level with an engraved customized image or lettering. AIM Blades offers affordable options in the cutlery category. I ordered my husband the Polished Viking Hatchet below. It comes with a high quality sheath and a 1095 high carbon and Damascus Steel blade. I chose to have his initials engraved on the handle. AIM Blades can design something for you, or you can send them an image file (like I did), and they will take care of the customization in a snap! This is a gift that I know my husband will enjoy and cherish, and the personalization makes it a true keepsake that I know he will pass down to one of our boys one day.

#6 Flashlight. This pen flashlight is great for an outdoorsman who likes staying prepared at all times! My husband has this one and loves it.
#7 High Quality Water Bottle. Get one that he can drop halfway down a mountain and it won’t break. The inexpensive plastic ones will typically crack with a lot of force. One like this will survive those impromptu hikes.
$8 Personalized lighter. Even those experienced with “ruffin’ it” will appreciate the quick and easy way to start a fire. Take the gift to the next level with a bit of personalization.
#9 Wet/dry bag. This is especially a nice gift for those who like to go from mountains to river at a moment’s notice. Grab this for the kayak lovers in your life.
#10 Handwarmers. My husband despises wearing gloves. He will when he absolutely has to, but he had rather grab handwarmers to keep in his pockets over wearing gloves any day.
