If you follow along on Instagram (and I hope you do– I share more personal photos than I do on other social media platforms), then you know that I am furiously preparing for a Frozen themed birthday party. I’ve been making tattoos, invitations, favor bags, and the list goes on. But today I’m taking a little break for a fun back to school project, inspired by Anna and Elsa. These Frozen Inspired Pencil Toppers are a project especially for those who own a Silhouette cutting machine. Hopefully those who do not own one will still find inspiration in the method behind creating these pencil toppers and can make them using a printable photo.
Supplies:
- Silhouette Cute Scandinavian Princess Shape
- Silhouette Snow Princess Shape
- White card stock
- Silhouette Cameo Starter Kit Bundle
{affiliate link}
- Pencil
- Fuzzy stick (also called a pipe cleaner. Thanks to CraftProjectIdeas.com for supplying the fuzzy sticks for today’s project!)
- Glue
Begin with the two Silhouette shapes from the Silhouette online store as linked above. Fill the color in the shapes, as desired. If you do not know how to fill in and arrange the layers on the shapes, be sure to see this tutorial {here}. Be sure to “Group” each image together to form a single Anna and a single Elsa.
***Please note that I am still using Silhouette Software Version 2. The following tutorial is written using this software.***
Select the image and click the “Cut Style” icon. You will see that the image is set to individually cut the pieces from the shapes. We definitely do not want this for the project, so click the “No Cut” option.
Open a new page, and under the “File” tab, click “Registration Mark Settings”.
When the column on the right pops up, be sure to check “Show Registration Marks”. This will bring up marks on the grid to show you where to NOT place your Silhouette shapes.
Now use the circle/oval icon and create a oval that is 2.57″ in height and 2.275″ in width. If you’re not sure how to set exact size in Silhouette software, see my tutorial. From the other page(s) with the Anna and Elsa inspired images, copy those images and paste them into the new page. Resize them to fit inside of the oval. Copy and paste to create as many of the shapes as needed or as will fit on the page. Make sure that the images do not overlap the registration marks. If you’re trying to determine how many to create, you will need two shapes per pencil topper.
Once satisfied with the layout, send the page to the printer. The home printer, not the Silhouette. We’ll print the images off first, then cut ’em out!
Take the completed printed sheet and lay it on the Silhouette mat. Now, send the cut to the Silhouette machine and watch the ovals cut right before your eyes!
Gather the cut ovals (2 per pencil), fuzzy stick (1 per pencil), and glue. I used hot glue for quick drying, but if kids are indeed helping with this project a craft glue will work just as well.
On one end, glue an Anna shape to one side. Glue an Elsa shape to the opposite side. Glue them together, if desired.
Wrap the fuzzy stick around the pencil. If the pencil is short, cut off the fuzzy stick to the appropriate length.
Of course, these pencil toppers aren’t made to be extraordinarily durable. But they are fun and a great treat for those little ones who are still Frozen obsessed!

I love how easy these pencil toppers are! I never though to use pipe cleaners that way. Awesome tutorial.

Great pencil toppers! I remember when I was a kid I had to have ALL the pencil toppers. It would have been awesome to have cool toppers that only I had!
