Pillow boxes have been around for a long time, but I’m just now discovering them. Truth be told, pillow boxes have been around for a long time in the bottom drawer of my craft cart under a stash of Canvas Corp burlap flowers and lace headbands. Ever since making these Washi Tape Pillow Boxes, I’ve been thinking of other ways to spruce up these cute little things. The summer trends of gold and nautical stripes started my wheels turning, so I made these painted pillow boxes. Made to give a special treat to a friend, I am naming these Friendship Gift Pillow Boxes. They are easy to make and only take a minimal amount of time.
Supplies:
- Blank pillow box
- Gold acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Vinyl Shape Heart
- Washi tape
- Optional: Cricut to cut vinyl heart
Begin by using washi tape to create the horizontal stripes on the pillow box. I also sectioned out a box on the right bottom of the box that was about 1.5″ by 1.5″. This is what looks like the mess at the bottom. I covered it completely so that I would remember not to paint it. Use a ruler to make sure the stripes are even.
Grab the gold paint and paint the stripes in between the washi tape. Let dry. Repeat until the stripes have full coverage. For me, this took about four coats of paint.
Remove the washi tape.
Now apply the vinyl heart in the right hand corner. I cut mine with a Cricut, and then used transfer tape to apply it. Want the info on transfer tape and how to use it? Check out the below video that I’ve made for you about applying transfer tape!
Place your sweet treats in the box, and give it to a friend who could use a pick me up today! Making a few of these to keep on hand is a great idea if you like participating in random acts of kindness. That way, you’ll always have something on hand to give a gift!
I’ve teamed up with a few of my very own friends to bring you a collection of Friendship craft ideas, and a $35 Amazon gift card giveaway! Be sure to check out all the projects, and then use the Rafflecopter form to enter to win the giveaway. The giveaway is open to US and Canada and is in no way affiliated with Facebook.
