Football Mason Jars with Cheez-It Snack Mix

The hubby and I do not have the opportunity to attend many games these days. Having triplets has changed all of that for us, at least for a little while. For some reason, it’s difficult to find a sitter for two year old triplet boys. I can’t imagine why. So we’ve become experts in the field of “homegating.” Have you heard of homegating? It’s a fancy word for tailgating at home. We have fun making delicious food and treats and hanging out with our friends. Sometimes it’s difficult to plan for the number of party attendees, and I wind up making an overabundance of food. Then I’m left with a bunch of food and I don’t know what to do with it! That led to these fun Football Mason Jars. I can make these ahead of time and fill them with a Cheez-It Snack Mix. Fans can take a little of the game home with them!

Since the Football Mason Jars have to be made ahead of time, let’s start with those! They are simple to make, but due to the paint drying time, you will need to work on these a couple days in advance.

Supplies:

  • Pint mason jars with lids and bands
  • White chalk paint
  • Brown chalk paint
  • 1″ paint brush
  • Leather cording
  • Big Game printable tag
  • White card stock
  • Brown card stock

Begin with brown chalk paint. Using the 1″ paint brush, paint the brown paint over on the outside of the mason jar. Let it dry completely. Continue adding coats of paint until the entire jar is covered. For me, it took three coats of paint. Let dry completely.

Use the white chalk paint to paint lines like football on the smooth side of the mason jar. One side of the mason jar has ridges, and the other side should be smooth. Let the paint dry.

Print out the Big Game tag on white card stock. Right click the image below to save it to your computer. Then print it in an approximately 2 inch size. The larger, empty circle is the template to trace and cut the brown card stock.

Cut out the tag. Use the template to cut a brown circle. Glue the two together. Punch a hole in the tag. Attach the tag to the mason jar with the leather cording.

This snack mix takes a cheesy turn from a traditional snack mix because I’m adding two new Cheez-It products in the recipe: Cheez-It Grooves and Cheez-It Crunch’d!

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 cups assorted cereal
  • 1 cup Cheez-It Grooves
  • 1 cup Cheez-It Crunch’d

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees.

Melt the butter in the microwave. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and all spices.

In a large bowl, combine the butter mixture and all ingredients except for the Cheez-It Crunch’d.

Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Spread the mix on the baking sheet. Cook for 25 minutes, stopping to stir after each ten minute interval.

Remove from oven. Add the Cheez-It Crunch’d. Spread on a platter and serve!

This snack mix is so delicious that there’s a chance that you may not have any left over! The Cheez-It varieties add a nice cheesy spin. Grab them on the cracker or chip aisle at your local Walmart!

What a fun idea! I had to laugh at your “for some reason no one wants to babysit 2 year old triplet boys” comment. Ha! I can only imagine. You of all people NEED a babysitter!
