I am not fond of cheese balls that are overly cream cheese tasting. This one uses less cream cheese than most cheese ball recipes but extra shredded cheese for plenty of real cheese flavor.
Ingredients:
- 8 ounce block of cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Colby Jack and Monterrey cheese blend
- 1 slice pepper jack cheese
- 3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup sliced green onions
- 1/4 cup crushed pretzels
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pink Himalayan sea salt
- Pepper
Assemble all of your ingredients.
In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded cheese blend, 1/4 cup sliced green onions, and garlic powder. Add sea salt and pepper to taste. Mix with a hand held or stand mixer until the combination is fluffy.
With clean hands, form the cheese mixture into a football shape. Place it in the refrigerator while mixing the cheese ball coating.
In a small bowl, combine the remaining green onions, the crushed pretzels, and the bacon.
Remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator. Press the pretzel mixture around the cheese ball.
Slice the pepper jack cheese into four rectangles, 1 slightly longer than the other three. Arrange them on top of the football.
Serve with crackers or additional pretzels. I bought a few boxes of Jalapeño Cheddar crackers that are awesome with this cheese ball!
Be prepared and don’t let guests miss-out on the homegating festivities. Leave Angel Soft toilet paper in the guest bathroom so that guests may grab their own if they run out. Angel Soft toilet paper has the ideal balance of softness and strength.
