Have you ever walked into someone’s home and noticed a strange odor? I know that’s happened to me several times. Anytime my husband is with me, we always leave and have the conversation where we wonder if we were the only people who noticed it. It took a movie night and a fun Noseblind test sponsored by Febreze for me to realize how easy it can be to get accustomed to smells in my own home.
For the Noseblind test, I hosted a few of the hubby’s guy friends for a movie night. Armed with their trusty cell phones and tablets, we all took an initial survey on what we smelled in the home. We weren’t allowed to discuss our answers until after the movie was over, but I was surprised to find out later that one of the guys could actually smell baby diapers! I Obviously, if you’re going to smell baby diapers anywhere, our house is a good place to start. But I’m meticulous over the baby diapers, so it did surprise me that he could smell them. We then popped a couple bags of popcorn, took another survey, and then settled in to watch the movie.
At the end of the movie, we took another series of surveys regarding what we smelled in the house. I could actually smell the popcorn, but after discussing our answers at the end, most of the crew thought that the popcorn smell wasn’t very strong. Once we had completed the surveys, we were able to discuss our answers. I think that most of us had similar stories regarding the odors and to what extent that we smelled them, but it wasn’t until we went crazy with the Febreze products that we realized how fresh our home COULD smell with the right guidance! Noseblindness is simply becoming accustomed to odors around the home to the point where the olfactory nerves in the nose cannot detect certain odors as bad smelling or foreign. In our case of the baby diapers, this can be pretty embarrassing!
After breaking bad with the Febreze items, our house smelled fresh and free of baby diaper odors and popcorn. The Febreze Air Refresher and the candle are my favorite Febreze products, but they are all awesome at pinpointing odors and eliminating them, rather than just masking them.
So do you think that your house has a case of Noseblindness?
