Faux Leather Bottom Drawstring Bag

Thanks to Family Christian Stores for sponsoring today’s Appreciation Certificate giveaway!

I can’t believe school  starts back in less than a month! Eek! I’m not ready, and I bet my little one isn’t either. I never liked the first day of school, but I did like buying school supplies. I don’t know what it is, but I still like buying school supplies. I like the smell of new pencils and writing in a fresh notebook for the first time. Even though I’m far from school age, I’m still crushing over these adorable Live Original notebooks from Sadie Robertson and DaySpring. Sold at Family Christian Stores, the notebooks have the most trendy patterns AND inspirational faith sayings. To accompany my new notebook purchases, I made this Faux Leather Bottom Drawstring Bag. I’m sharing the tutorial today, as well as a $25 Family Christian Stores Appreciation Certificate giveaway!

Supplies for the bag:

  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • 4 feet of paracord
  • (2) pieces of 16×4 faux leather material
  • (2) pieces of  16×14.25 cotton

With right sides together, sew one piece of the faux leather to the cotton, short sides together. This is now the bottom of the bag. Repeat with the other two pieces.

On the wrong side, mark a line 2″ down and 3.5″ down from the top of the material. Do this one each side with both pieces of material.

With right sides together, sew the front and back together, leaving an opening between the two marks.

Press open the seam.

On the outside, sew around the opening to create an obvious hole. This will be for the drawstring.

Fold down the top along the 2″ mark. Topstitch close to the edge. Fold under the raw edge. Stitch close to the fold.

Turn the bag right side out. Using 2 feet of the paracord and a safety pin, thread the paracord through one of the holes to exit the hole on the other side. Repeat with the last two feet, starting with the other hole.

Pull the paracord to the bottom and pin. Do this on both sides. Turn the bag right sides together. Sew the bottom closed. Turn the bag right side out.

Play around with the fabric dimensions to create a larger bag if you wish. The bag can go inside a bookbag to keep certain items separate or easier to find.

The Sadie Robertson Live Original notebook line goes perfectly in this bag.

These are my two favorite pieces. I’ve started using the planner for myself! I like the colors and style. I don’t have to be a teenager to use these, right?

Here’s a sneak peek inside of the planner. It has many of the aspects that I like in my planners without the high dollar price tag. AND it has Bible verses inside. What’s not to love?

These items can be found in a special display at your local Family Christian Stores.
