This past Friday, I received THE TEXT.
“Attention, parents. Join us for Open House in two weeks.”
Eek! Where did the summer go? I’m leaving behind summer fun for shopping for school supplies, which I intend to do early before the rush. If you’re looking for a back to school craft project to do with your tween or teen, this Fabric Covered Composition Book is a fun project, and you can pick up a composition book for about 50 cents at Walmart right now!
Supplies:
- Fabric scrap
- Composition book
- Scissors
- Decorative fabric tape
- Rubber stranding scrap (about 2 inches)
- Large button
- Decoupage
- Optional: hot glue gun
Cut a piece of fabric to cover the outside of the notebook. You can trace the open notebook on the wrong side of the fabric and then cut it out, but be careful to be very precise.
Apply a thick layer of decoupage to the front of the notebook.
Carefully adhere the fabric to the front of the notebook. Press and fabric and work out the wrinkles.
Turn the notebook to the back and apply another thick layer of decoupage.
Take the piece of rubber stranding and fold it in half. Press the ends into the middle of the back of notebook in the decoupage near the edge. Make sure the folded portion is facing out of the notebook.
Bring the rest of the fabric around and adhere it to the back of the notebook.
Use the fabric tape to go around the edges of the notebook, removing the liner as you go.
Glue the button to the front of the notebook so that it is in a position to be secured with the rubber strand. I used a hot glue gun for this to make sure that it held, but you could try using the decoupage if you do not have a hot glue gun handy.
Now, grab a cute pen to go with your new cute notebook! While at Walmart, I found the Pilot G2 Fashion Collection pens. These gel pens are colorful and pretty!
Save $0.75 on any one 4-pack of Pilot G2 Gel Ink pens.
Pilot G2 Pens are America’s #1 selling gel ink brand with four point sizes and 15 colors. The gel ink writes smoothly with a comfortable grip. All that is awesome, but I love them because the G2 Fashion Collection is pretty!
I need to try this so I don’t have to buy the more expenive fancy notebooks 🙂
You can use spray glue and it works just as well. Don’t spend money on fabric, go through you closet and find things you haven’t worn for a while and use those old clothes.
Yes, fabric from old clothes works great, too! I always have fabric scraps on hand from sewing stuff for the kids. 🙂
Good idea
