You know that you are officially a mom when you get emotional during animated movies. I guess that’s fitting for Inside Out, since it’s all about emotions. If you haven’t seen the movie, then I’m not going to spoil it for you, but it is a wonderful movie to watch with your kids. My daughter is at a stage where she is definitely transitioning from a “little kid” to a “big kid.” Sigh. So the movie Inside Out was released on DVD at the perfect time for us.
We purchased the Inside Out DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack this week at Target. My daughter asked when we could have a mommy-daughter movie night, and her dad was conveniently out of town that night, so we had an immediate movie night! Many families center movie night around food and snacks. What makes our mommy-daughter movie nights unique is that we center ours around a coordinating craft! My daughter and I are both craft addicts, and it’s a nice way to incorporate the movie into our shared hobby.
My daughter loves making jewelry (like these Text Cool bracelets), but she’s not quite old enough to master many common jewelry making skills. She has tried making those rubber band bracelets or the strand bracelets that have to be braided, but she leaves frustrated and with nothing to show for it. For this reason, simple pony bead bracelets are the best jewelry making option for her right now.
Do you have a little one in the same boat? If so, these easy pony bead bracelets are a great started jewelry project! They only take a few supplies, and the kiddos can practice their colors, sorting, and patterns. They help to build a child’s confidence that they can master other jewelry or crafting projects, too! For bonus points, if you have a child that is constantly making bracelets for friends, these pony bead bracelets are easy on the budget.
Since our movie night theme was Inside Out, we made one bracelet in each of the colors of the main emotions from the movie.
Red = Anger
Purple = Fear
Yellow = Joy
Green = Disgust
Blue = Sadness
To get started, grab your supplies:
- Scissors
- Assortment of pony bead colors
- Elastic Cord
Wrap a piece of elastic cord around the child’s wrist. Cut it a few inches longer than the length measured.
Have the child string the beads on the elastic cord, leaving a minimum of 1/2″ empty space on both ends of the cord.
TIP: Tape one end of the string to the table so that your child does not drop the string while placing on the beads.
Knot the ends of the bracelet cord together.
Continue making bracelets until you’ve made one with each color from the movie.
If your child is a huge Inside Out fan, you can incorporate the emotions and bracelets into their daily life as a way for them to express themselves. For instance, if you have a child that feels strong fear emotions but doesn’t always communicate it for whatever reason, have them slip on the purple bracelet when they are having these feelings.
Head to Target to grab a copy of Inside Out. If you run now, you’ll even find them conveniently placed in special displays at the front of the store! The Inside Out DVDs and Blu-Rays purchased at Target include 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes. Target is a great place for all of your movie night needs. They have snacks, party supplies, and even craft supplies!
Have you seen Inside Out? What did you think of the movie?
My daughter and I saw Inside Out at the movies. It was cute but, has some really sad spots. Love those little emotions bracelets. Cute for the younger kids. I love Target for movies.
what a fun idea! I love that the kids can use the bracelets to express emotion even when they don’t feel like talking about it!
So cute! What a fun idea!

Cute idea. My daughter loves the movie and loves making bracelets so this will be perfect!
We just watched this movie the other day. I loved it! The colors representing each emotion are great 🙂
What a great way to help kids show their emotions! This movie is a great conversation starter, and I love using the bracelets to bring the movie to life. Thanks for sharing! #client
