While I enjoy most crafting projects, I especially enjoy those “elevated” projects. You know, the ones that look super fancy and like they took forever to make but really they didn’t? These DIY Three Layer Faux Leather earrings definitely fit that description. The shimmer from the faux leather combined with the elegant shape of the earring create a face slimming look perfect for date night.
How to Find an Earring Cut File
While I have designed my own earrings in the past, I’m also a huge proponent of not inventing the wheel if I do not need to! Already made cut files, also known as SVG files, are a time save for me. Instead of laboring over the aspects of a design, I just upload to Cricut Design Space and cut. When looking for images, there are a few places that are my go-to for purchasing SVG files. The image in today’s post comes from Design Bundles. Head here to snag the three layer earring cut file for yourself. Once you’ve acquired it and downloaded it to your computer, see How to Upload SVG Files into Cricut Design Space.

Supplies to make the faux leather earrings
- Cricut Machine: Either the Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2 will work for this project. I’m using the Cricut Maker.
- StandardGrip Cutting Mat
- Faux Leather in 3 colors (a light color, a medium color, a darker color)
- Jump ring (2)
- Ball Earring post (2)
- Jewelry pliers
How to Make the Faux Leather Earrings
Step One
Follow the instructions in the link above to upload the three layer SVG file to Cricut Design Space. Open up a new Cricut work canvas and place the three layer earring images on the canvas.
Step Two
Size the three layer earring designs to the size that you would like the earrings to be. Mine are sized to about two inches.
Step Three
Send the images to the Cricut machine for cutting. Be sure to place the faux leather on the StandardGrip Cutting mat, felt side down. Each layer will be on a different color faux leather.
Step Four
Remove the designs from the mats. The layers are as follows:
- The longest layer is on the bottom. For me, this is also the darkest color.
- The lightest color is in the middle.
- The medium color is on top.
Use the jewelry pliers to place a jump ring in the top of all the layers, making sure that they are in the correct order. There will be a small hole in the each layer of the design where this will go.
Step Five
While the jump ring is still open, connect it to the earring post. Use the jewelry pliers to close the jump ring.
Step Six
Repeat with the second earring.
The earrings are now ready to wear.
While you have jump rings and earring posts on hand, these Faux Leather Heart earrings are another easy project. Or check out a few of these below:
