I received a small bag of metal charms in a craft mystery box one day. The charms stayed unused in my craft room until I was finally inspired on what to create with them. I made a patterned paper necklace, but my favorite are a few clay necklaces (like this DIY Texture Clay Pendant Necklace) that I whipped up!

Supplies for this DIY Textured Clay Pendant Necklace:
- Sculpey Souffle Oven Bake Clay
- Work ‘n bake clay mat – This mat is wonderful! I can use it to first roll and cut my shapes, and then I can bake them directly on the mat. This decreases the chances that I will misshapen my design when transferring it to another baking mat.
- Clay roller
- Clay Texture Sheet
- Clay knife, like the one in this clay tool starter kit
- 1 rectangular charm
- 1 jump ring – I purchased a variety box like this one and use the size that I think works best for each jewelry making project.
- Jewelry pliers
- E6000 adhesive
- Necklace chain
Choose the color for the pendant.
Break off a small piece of clay from the block. Use the clay roller to roll the clay to approximately 1/8″ on the work n’ bake mat.
Choose a texture sheet. Lightly press the texture sheet onto the clay with even pressure. Lift the texture sheet to see the result. If you are happy with the texture, continue to the next step. If you are not happy, roll the clay out again and try again. The great thing about clay is that I can always start over at this step!
Turn the rectangular metal charm so that the back of the charm is facing up. Press the charm into the clay firmly. Lift up the charm and set aside. The outline of the charm should be on the clay. Use the clay knife to cut the rectangle out carefully.
Place the work n’ bake mat on a baking sheet. Follow the instructions from Sculpey on baking.
Per the Sculpey Souffle Website: Bake at 275 °F (130 °C) for 30 minutes per 1/4 in (6 mm) thickness. DO NOT MICROWAVE. Baking should be completed by an adult. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME.
Since we are baking a shape half the size of 1/4,” the rectangle should only need approximately 15 minutes. Check it and do not over bake.
Remove the rectangle from the oven. Allow to cool completely.
Apply a thin layer of E6000 to the front of the charm. Press the textured rectangle onto the glue. Allow to dry and cure thoroughly, approximately 48 hours or as directed on the E6000 package.
Use the jewelry pliers to attach a jump ring into the hole of the charm. Attach the jump ring to the necklace chain.
