DIY Heart Onesie in 10 Minutes or Less

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching! Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that sneaks up on me. But in an effort to become more intentional this year, I think I have a pretty good head start. I’ve already made the little one’s preschool Valentines, and today I’m sharing a heart onesie for a boy! My sister had a new baby boy, and I wanted a way that she could take a cute Valentine’s Day picture with him, but in a boyish way. A boy can wear hearts as long as they are blue, right? This is also my first attempt at Heat Transfer Vinyl, and I am hooked! This is such a quick and easy project. Even with three babies rolling around, I was able to complete this during a nap time with time to spare. So here’s a DIY Heart Onesie that can be completed in 10 minutes or less!

Supplies:

  • Onesie
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl
  • Iron
  • Towel

Begin by measuring the front of the onesie to determine how big that the heart should be. For a 0-3 month onesie, I decided to cut mine 4″ by 4″.

Measure heart onesie

Now cut the heart in the measurement. I have a Cricut, so I was able to cut a heart using the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. If you do not have a Cricut, use a stencil. If using a Cricut, be sure to cut the vinyl with the shiny side down.

Heat the iron to the Cotton setting. Place the heart on the onesie, shiny side up.

Keeping the heart in place on the onesie, lay a towel over it. Take the hot iron and press it down over the towel for 60 seconds. Lift up the iron and towel and check to see how secure the heart is to the onesie. Continue this method in 30 second increments until the vinyl is totally secure.

Now peel the shiny plastic off of the heart.

Voila! Done, easy, but yet you look like a crafting Valentine genius. That’s my kind of project.
