I know that many of my awesome readers identify as being a maker and come here for creative projects. I’m happy to be bringing you a crafty project today- a simple DIY Fishing Car Decal. Have you ever wondered how to make a car decal with your Cricut or other cutting machine? I’m show you how! For this project, instead of heading to the store and purchasing a car decal, I decided to use items that I already had to make it.
DIY Fishing Car Decal Supplies:
- Cricut machine
- Cutting mat
- Premium outdoor vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Weeding tool
- Scraper tool or old credit/rewards card for applying decal
How to Make
Open up Cricut Design Space. If you are using Cricut Design Space like I am in the project, you can click HERE to grab my project file to make it super easy! If not, design your decal, making sure to measure the place where you wish to place the decal.
Cut the design on the cutting mat with the premium outdoor vinyl.
Use the weeding tool to remove the vinyl within the design that doesn’t belong.
Set the design aside until you wish to apply the decal. Once you are ready to apply the decal to your vehicle, clean the window area thoroughly. Let it dry.
Grab the decal. Cut a piece of transfer tape the same size as the decal.
Peel the liner from the transfer tape. Apply the transfer tape to the decal.
Use the scraper tool to gently press the vinyl to the transfer tape. Pull the liner from the back of the vinyl.
Position the decal on the window and carefully apply, using the scraper tool to adhere. Remove the transfer tape.

OMG I don’t typically like stickers on cars but that fishing decal is actually really well done!!! Wanna make me a giraffe!? ๐
I love that you can recycle your used oil at the center! That has me sold! I also am amazed at everything that can be created with a cricut! I need to get one!
I am literally obsessed with my cricut! I put vinyl on everything. Lol. When I first got my machine, I would walk around my house searching for something else to add vinyl to. Itโs so much fun! What an awesome creation! I prefer to do HTV, I find it easier to work with.
I love how endless the creations can be when you have a circuit machine and supplies. I have heard nothing but great things about what people design with their machines. I have yet to experience it, I am on the fence about buying one but I can see it as an investment.
Your post couldn’t be timelier. My husband took the week off to clean out and organize the garage. I especially love the idea of organizing everything oldest to newest. That way you don’t have to spend lots of time looking at expiration dates, etc.
That is a really cute idea. My husband loves to fish so this would be a nice one to add to his collection of stickers. I always say that he would not even notice if I added another because he has so many already. I may try this one out and slap it on there to see how long he takes to find it.
Omg this is so cool! I would loooove to DIY a decal on my car too. Anyhow, now that you mention it, I need to put some time in organizing our garage. Your tips here really help! Thank you!
Cute decal! I’d love to make something related to ocean conservation for my own car. Car decals would make a great holiday gift for family too!
Too cute! My daughter has been doing her own stickers but with just print paper. ๐ I will show her this, she will surely be inspired to do more designs.
