Earrings are one of my favorite things to make with my Cricut machine. I’ve made earrings using faux leather, genuine leather, paper, and felt. There are many possibilities when creating earrings with the Cricut machine. I’m terrible at hand cutting, but the Cricut takes away the imperfections that I normally have when manually cutting and replaces those with precise cuts.
Snowflake cuts tend to be fairly intricate, making stiff materials like faux leather harder to cut by hand. Not so with the Cricut machine!
Where to Find Snowflake SVG files
SVG files are ideal for uploading to Cricut Design Space. When looking for images, there are a few places that are my go-to for purchasing SVG files. The image in today’s post comes from Design Bundles. Head here to snag the snowflake cut file for yourself. Once you’ve acquired it and downloaded it to your computer, see How to Upload SVG Files into Cricut Design Space.
Supplies Needed to Make the DIY Faux Leather Snowflake Earrings
- Cricut Machine: Either the Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2 will work for this project. I’m using the Cricut Maker.
- StandardGrip Cutting Mat
- Faux Leather
- Jump ring (2)
- Ball Earring post (2)
- Jewelry pliers
How to Make the Snowflake Earrings
Step One
Follow the instructions above to upload the snowflake SVG file to Cricut Design Space. Open up a new Cricut work canvas and place the snowflake earring images on the canvas.
Step Two
Size the snowflake designs to the size that you would like the earrings to be. Mine are sized to about one and a half inches.
Step Three
Send the images to the Cricut machine for cutting. Be sure to place the faux leather on the StandardGrip Cutting mat, felt side down.
Step Four
Remove the snowflake designs from the mat. Use the jewelry pliers to place a jump ring in the top of the snowflake. There will be a small hole in the snowflake design where this will go.
Step Five
While the jump ring is still open, connect it to the earring post. Use the jewelry pliers to close the jump ring.
Step Six
Repeat with the second earring.
The earrings are now ready to wear.
