DIY Faux Leather Jewelry {and giveaway!}

I’ve discovered my new favorite crafting medium, and it’s downright awesome. I’m envisioning a plethora of ways to use it, but I’m starting off with this DIY Faux Leather Jewelry set! For those of you who think a Cricut is only for paper crafts, I’m getting ready to blow your mind! This post is brought to you by Cricut. This post may contain affiliate links.

This earring and necklace set is made with Cricut Faux Leather. It has the look and feel of real leather, but it is thin enough to be cut with the Cricut Explore Air without a special cutting blade.

Let’s get down to business!

Supplies:

  • Cricut Explore Air
  • Cricut Standard Grip Cutting mat
  • Cricut Faux Leather
  • Metallic Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Washi tape
  • Fabric Fusion
  • Something to make a small hole (I used a needle.)

Additional Necklace Supplies:

  • Chain
  • Jump Ring
  • Jewelry pliers

Additional Earring Supplies:

  • Earring jewelry findings. The earring hardware that I am using came with the jump ring attached, but yours may not.
  • Jewelry pliers

Using my cut file, cut two pieces for each jewelry piece. Since the faux leather is felt backed, I cut two pieces to that I could glue them together. If you design to design your own jewelry, just be sure to mirror one of the images per piece prior to cutting.

Using washi tape, tape off the top half of each faux leather piece. Be sure to press the tape firmly and smooth it out over the faux leather to  prevent paint leaks under the tape.

Paint the bottom half with the metallic paint. Let dry completely. Repeat with each piece.

Remove the tape once the paint has dried.

Next use the Fabric Fusion to attach each piece to its mate. The pieces should fit flawlessly together. Follow the directions on the bottle to adhere the pieces together.

With a sharp needle or micropunch, make a small hole in the top of each piece.

To finish the necklace:

Use the jewelry pliers to open the jump ring.

Tip: Open the jump ring by twisting the ends slightly rather than pulling them apart. This will help them to go back together the way that they were.

Thread the jump ring through the hole in the necklace pendant. Attach the jump ring to the chain, and use the jewelry pliers to close the jump ring.

Repeat with the earrings. The process may be a little different based on the jewelry findings that you purchased, but the general steps of attaching a jump ring to the faux leather piece and then attaching the jump ring to the earring post should still be basically the same.

These pieces are the perfect accessory for a fall wardrobe!

I love these! The color blocking is the best part. And the faux leather- just used it yesterday for my son’s indian tepee project, LOL!
It was fun crafting with you during this challenge!

Beautiful! What setting did you use to cut the leather? I’ve had a hard time with faux leather, it moves when its cutting. I’ve been thinking of trying a stabilizer, do you have any tips?

Hi, I used a fairly new Standard Grip Mat that I had only cut with once before, so it was very sticky. I used the custom setting on the Cricut Explore Air and set it to “Faux Leather.” Have you tried using a new mat or one of the Strong Grip Mats?
