Papercut DIY Envelopes from Sum of Their Stories

Hello, I’m Julie from Sum of their Stories. I love making and sending cards to my family & friends so I’m really pleased to be here as part of Melanie’s lovely Let’s Write a Note Challenge!
Quite often shop bought cards come with a fancy envelope don’t they?

In our house, all the cards we send/give are hand made and we use card blanks in various shapes and sizes that come in packs with envelopes – plain envelopes. This is not right. I am taking time and effort to make a (hopefully) lovely, unique card, why am I happy for it to be sent in a plain boring envelope?
So I have been on a mission to find some fun ways to fancy up and DIY envelopes.

First I made one for my Dad. To have a go you need a plain envelope, a pencil, a stencil, a craft knife and a piece of contrast paper for lining.

Open the flap of the envelope and flip your stencil back to front and upside down. Do the centre letter of your message first then add the rest, put them pretty close together.

Then use the craft knife to cut then out carefully. Remember upside down AND back to front – I speak from experience!

See look, when you close the envelope it is now the right way up.

Now place the lining paper under the envelope flap and draw round it.

I was using a bit of scrap paper so had to tidy up the sides. Just cut it a fraction narrower than your envelope and long enough to fit right down inside below the V.

Glue just along the top edge of the lining paper then pop it in the envelope.

For idea 2 I tried more of a valentine/anniversary type idea. Sealed with a loving kiss x
Draw the letters and simple lips in pencil on a bit of scrap paper.

Turn it over and place it on the inside of a red envelope point – upside down remember!

Rub all over with a pencil, so it transfers to the envelope.

Cut it out with a craft knife. I used my swivel-y one because there were lots of curves here but a regular craft knife will be fine too.

Then line with contrasting paper as above.

Enjoy sending special notes or cards to special people in special envelopes!

Such a cute idea! I love the contrasting paper, and that it really personalizes the envelope too.
