If you are a church leader in the children’s department, then you’re probably getting Vacation Bible School fever about now! Planning for an awesome VBS takes months, and believe it or not, it’s time to start. This year, our church is using the Camp Kilimanjaro Kit, and I’m amazed at all the inspiration stemming from this kit! With a focus on Proverbs, Camp Kilimanjaro takes the kids to the continent of Africa. Imagine all the crafts, fun, and Bible learning that you could create with African animals and a jungle theme! Today, I’m making a quick set of DIY Elephant Ears to accompany the VBS theme. These are no sew and can be made in under 20 minutes. A special thank you to Family Christian Stores for supplying the Camp Kilimanjaro VBS kit for this post!
Supplies:
- Gray felt
- Craft foam
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
- Headband frame (I save up old headbands for this)
Cut out the elephant ear pieces. Cut two pieces from the grey felt that look like giant Minnie Mouse bows. Cut out two pieces from the craft foam. Cut these smaller than the grey pieces. They will fit inside the grey shapes.
Hot glue one foam piece inside one grey shape. Repeat with the second grey shape and craft foam piece.
Cut a long grey strip of felt, approximately 1/2 inch in width. Wrap the felt around the headband, securing with the hot glue gun.
Fold the ear pieces on the sides of the headband. Hot glue around the margins and the middle to secure.
Animal ears are the perfect complement to the Camp Kilimanjaro VBS theme. The Camp Kilimanjaro Contemporary Super Starter Kit comes packed with materials and fun stuff!
The kit comes with everything that our church needs for planning our VBS week. It contains leader guides for each age group, sheet music, game planning, craft resources, and so much more!
The Camp Kilimanjaro 2015 VBS Contemporary Super Starter Kit is available online from Family Christian Stores. Family Christian Stores is the place to check out for pre-planned VBS kits. They save so much time in VBS preparation that you’ll have time for other fun stuff- like crafts!
How cute and wish I had elephant ears, even now
What a cute project to go w/ your theme. And the ears actually look easy enough to get together, which is huge for someone craft challenged like myself.
Very cute DIY! Would be great for Halloween too! Thanks for sharing ๐
