Do your little ones like to color? Heck, maybe you even like to color! Coloring is a creative and soothing pastime, and it is even more fun with a custom coloring sheet or book. If you’ve received those “freebie of the week” emails from Cricut, you may have wondered what you could create with them, especially if you have limited time. A DIY Custom Coloring Book is a great way to use those themed “freebies of the week” and have a mini coloring book that goes together.
Of course, you can use any images from Cricut Design Space that you want. All the images that I am using for this DIY Coloring Book are from the Fantasy Cartridge.
If you have never turned an image into a coloring sheet, it is relatively easy.
DIY Custom Coloring Book Supplies:
- Cricut machine (I’m using a Cricut Explore Air 2)
- Cricut StandardGrip Cutting mat OR LightGrip mat – This depends on the weight of paper that you are using. I’m using a substantial weight card stock, and the StandardGrip cutting mat works well for this.
- Cricut card stock
- Cricut pen
- Hinged O-Ring for attaching the pages together
First, decide how large that you want the pages to be.
Open Cricut Design Space. Click the “shapes” icon on the left hand panel. Create a rectangle or square the size that you determined you want the pages to be.
Insert your image/wording into the rectangle. Ungroup the image and delete all the “extra” stuff that you do not want the Cricut to draw. You should be left with just the image outline. If you have any separate image elements, group them back together after you have removed everything that you do not want.
Size it to fit on the rectangle. Make sure that the image is set to “draw” and not “cut” on the right hand panel. Attach the image to the shape on the right hand panel.
Make a small circle at the top corner of the page. The circle should be set to cut out of the rectangle. The is for the ring to attach the pages. Be sure to attach the circle to the rectangle on the right hand panel.
Repeat to create the remaining pages.
Load the Cricut pen into the machine. Send the images to the machine to cut.
Attach them all together with the ring once finished.
This would be a cute idea for a kid’s birthday party or for a road trip, too!
