The ironic thing about working from home is that I actually do not have a lot of dedicated work space. I know that this sounds odd, but I think I actually had more true work space when I had a full time job outside of our house. We do not have an office space at home. We actually did, once upon a time, but then we had those little guys that we refer to as “the triplets,” and the office quickly became a nursery. My “office” is a combination of the couch, my messy craft room, and this small corner in my bedroom.
The bedroom corner started as a dream of mine when my husband and I were first married. I had always wanted a bedroom that was large enough to have a chair or small sitting space. After we had our first daughter, we replaced the rocking chair area with a comfortable reclining chair and a side table. Since that time, it has been one of my favorite places in my house. It’s quiet, serene, and a great space to watch TV or work.
But like all small spaces, it quickly became cluttered. My husband and I both use it for working, and between the two of us the paperwork, books, and receipts accumulate. A few weeks ago, I couldn’t take it anymore. I not only wanted it clean and organized, but I also wanted it cozier and more inviting.
I started by stepping back and looking at the space as if it were through someone else’s eyes. What would someone else notice if they were evaluating my little area? I immediately noticed the clutter, the darkness of the chair, and the light placement.
The clutter is self explanatory. The chair needed a cozy element with preferably lighter shades to brighten it. While I liked the lamp, the placement of it was terrible! The lamp was not adjustable, and if I was sitting in the chair with the light on, the light was blindingly bright directly in my eyes.
I plopped down in my chair and jetted over to Target.com to see what sort of new decor items I could find. If you haven’t noticed, plaid is all the rage this season. I was delighted to find an entire page of products dedicated to plaid! If you are thinking that plaid is nothing but your traditional red and black, think again! I keep my room neutral with accents of color, and I was pleased to find items that are in the plaid trend but still coordinate with my current color scheme.
I had heard chatter from my friends about the Adam Lippes for Target Plaid home collection, and so that was my starting point. I found a cozy looking matching throw and pillow from the Adam Lippes for Target Plaid home collection that would be instrumental in lightening my chair.
Both the pillow and the blanket are reversible.
The piece that I love the most is this Threshold lamp from Target. It’s adjustable and fits perfectly on my side table.
After decorating, which is the fun part, I had to organize the clutter. It was well worth the effort, and I’m back to having a cozy work corner again.
How would you incorporate plaid into your home decor? Would you add plaid to your bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen? There are so many options with the home plaid selections at Target! Looks great! And so cozy!
The plaid is lovely and looks so warm and cozy! I love snuggling up with a blanket to read a book. I’m going to check this out next time I’m at Target.
During the winter I pull out a tartan throw and drape it over the back of the sofa. It adds color and is even better for cuddling under!
Oh I’m loving all of the plaid at Target this season! I bought a ton of it 🙂
