Ahh, crochet woes. I’m enamored with those who can crochet. Those who can make a crocheted penguin hat in the span of a few hours. You make it look so easy, you know! Yet crochet has always been a struggle for me. There is always something that I’m not doing quite right. And don’t even get me started on that darn magic ring. However, I recently found a pattern for an adorable crochet mug cozy, and I wanted to try it. I don’t know if it was the lovely color or the trendy button, but something fooled me into thinking that not only could I make this, but that it would be easy.
Fast forward a week, and I still do not have a mug cozy worth anything. I’ve restarted the project at least seven times. I’ve counted and recounted stitches and rows. Yet it wasn’t turning out the way that it should have been. I grew desperate. And so I did what I should have already done: called in the experts.
I shared a little video of my crochet efforts with Kadie from Seven Alive and Sarah from Repeat Crafter Me, and they immediately knew what I was doing wrong. Seriously, it took them approximately 4.67 seconds.
After following their advice, it took me approximately 30 minutes to make this Crochet Mug Cozy. That’s a heck of an improvement over a week.
If you’re looking for a beginner crochet project or a lovely Crochet Mug Cozy, be sure to check out this pattern from Bubble Girl Knit and Crochet. It’s doable and would make nice gifts. It’s never too early to start on Christmas gift projects!
Now, if I could only master that elusive Magic Ring so that I could make the boys a hats, I would be set! That kind of project may require in person instruction.
This is so cute! I wish I had the patience to learn to crochet or knit.
