Country Pumpkin School Project

This Country Pumpkin School Project was a fun project for my daughter. This post contains affiliate links. Clicking through these will include no additional cost to you, but help support this site to continue bringing Cricut projects and ideas.

You guys see me use my Cricut all the time for craft projects, but I’ve mentioned how my daughter like using it for school projects, too. She’s only in elementary school, but she can use the Cricut Design Space for easy projects or typing text. Last year, one of her school Spanish class projects was to decorate a pumpkin to represent an assigned country. Her country was Spain. The only requirement was that the flag and country name had to be showcased on the pumpkin. Any other creative elements were up to her.

First, she painted her pumpkin with chalky finish paint and let it dry completely.

Meanwhile, we loaded Cricut Design Space. She came up with a list of easy Spanish words, and we typed these out (along with the word “Spain”) in Design Space. She cut the words out in vinyl.

After the paint had dried, we researched Spain’s flag. She drew a rectangle lightly in pencil in the center front of the pumpkin. She painted the flag with the appropriate colors.

Once all the paint had dried (she didn’t want to accidentally smudge the paint), she applied the words around the pumpkin. We did not use any type of transfer tape so that the paint would not come off with the tape. She cut the words out in a chunky, easy to remove font, making it easy for her to remove the letters by hand and apply the to the pumpkin.

We did go over the pumpkin with Mod Podge just to keep everything secure and sealed.

She had fun doing this project, and I liked watching her enthusiasm for it. Between the paint and Mod Podge, the pumpkin lasted until January!

While the Cricut Explore Air 2 machine is great for daily crafting, it can be useful for school projects, too! Have your kids ever used your Cricut for a school project?
