Have you entered to win the Holiday Prize Pack?
Hi! My name is Melissa and I am the yarn fanatic behind Woven Hearts Knits. I am also obsessed with the creativity of Bear Rabbit Bear Crafts(not the mention the beauty of it’s littlest model) and feel very privileged to guest post this week!!
One day with nothing more than the desire to create a Christmas ornament for the season, something that truly reflected my personality, I sat down to “paper mache’ something. My son will attest to the fact that this is usually messy and dangerous! However, even he liked the end result so much that we hung it on our church’s tree for the holiday season!!
Supplies you will need:
Balloons
Flour
Newspaper (cut into very small pieces)
Water
Masking tape
Ribbon (cut to the length of your ornament hanger)
Fabric Scraps
Modge Podge
Glitter glue
First.blow up the balloon to the size you want your ornament. Use the masking tape to adhere the ribbon to the top of the balloon and to hold the balloon tail down.
Mix equal parts of flour and water to make a paste. Use this to paste the newspaper bits to the balloon. Coat the balloon completely, then let it dry.
Repeat this step until you feel the ornament base is sturdy enough not to collapse in.
At this point you should have an ornament of newspaper with your ribbon hanging out the top.
Now, design how you want your fabric scraps on the ornament and use your Modge Podge to place them. Cove the entire ornament with fabric scraps. Let it dry.
Coat the entire ornament in glitter glue. This gives it a shiny look and increases the integrity of the ornament.
That’s it! A beautiful, unique ornament to hang on your tree or give as a gift!!
Wonderful idea for an ornament! I will be pinning this to try to make for Christmas! Thanks so much for sharing!
