With my husband’s job as a minister, we have the opportunity to participate in many service projects. Giving back is at the heart of my husband’s job, and we enjoy new experiences in helping others. My latest project has been the Champions for Kids “Spin Into Action” SIMPLE Service project. For this campaign, I made Summer Fun packs based around fun Arm and Hammer Spinbrush Tooth Tunes toothbrushes!
The summer months are sometimes “off” months when it comes to charitable donations to organizations, but there’s no reason why that should be. The summer is a great time to get the kids, family, and friends together and have a service project with your own personal touch! For this Champions for Kids “Spin Into Action” SIMPLE Service project, I made Summer Fun Packs with items that I purchased during a shopping trip to Walmart. I found super cute bags and then stuffed them with summer essentials. I typically buy toothbrushes when gathering charitable donation items, but this time I bought fun Arm and Hammer Tooth Tunes toothbrushes.
These toothbrushes play familiar pop songs for two minutes to help kids’ brush longer. I chose One Direction toothbrushes. I know all the little girls are crazy about One Direction! I also bought toothpaste for the bags. After that, it was on to the summer essentials! I packed the bag with cute One Direction figurines, water balloons, water guns, jump ropes, and bubbles. My daughter helped me pack the bags once I go home. I love teaching moments for my little one.
After this, I made a few phone calls to local family and friends. I informed them that I was organizing a Champions for Kids “Spin Into Action” SIMPLE Service project where I was gathering fun toys to donate to our local mission. These toys will be given out to deserving kids’ in the community. I only had a few short days to collect toys, and I was amazed at the great selection of toys that my friends and family gave towards my SIMPLE Service Project. Way to go, crew!
Our local mission was the recipient of my SIMPLE service project items. I know that they will disperse the items to those who are deserving of them. I have donated to them many times, and they are a great local organization!
Charitable donating and organizing these events can seem like a daunting task, but it shouldn’t be. Giving back is important for the community AND important for each of us as contributors to society. Don’t know where to start? In this short video clip, I talk about my Three Tips to Simplify Charitable Giving. Watch to learn more about 1) Thinking Outside the Box, 2) Going Local, ad 3) Getting Friends and Family Involved.
The Champions for Kids “Spin Into Action” SIMPLE Service project is all about giving back. Not only does Spinbrush prioritize donating fun and colorful children’s toys through their Champions for Kids Campaign, but they are also giving others a chance at a sweepstakes to see the band One Direction! The Spinbrush website currently offers all viewers a $2.00 coupon towards Tooth Tunes. I took advantage of this coupon for my Summer Fun bags! Head over to their website and grab one while they last!
I encourage you to get your family and friends together this summer and organize your own SIMPLE Service Project. It just takes one person to make a difference in a child’s life- let that person be you!
Yay for simple service projects that even little kids can be a part of!
I know- fun to give back!
Perfect packs to giveaway! I love simple services!
Thanks, Kadie!
What a great way to give back! And I can see how summer would be slower in terms of donating – kids are out of school and we’re so busy… – what a great reminder to all of us to remember the kids who perhaps don’t have as much!
Love the sharing aspect! You did an awesome job giving back and teaching kids to do the same!
These are great packs and love that you are giving back this summer!
I love to nurture that giving back attitude in my children. Thanks for sharing this idea!
Great way to give back! And it’s always great to get friends and family involved too.
What a fun project! I can’t wait to do mine.
It can be so easy to get so self-focused…especially when we’re so busy in the summer with trips and parties. I’ll echo what Tara said and say thanks for reminding us about what’s important: giving to others. And I can’t help but think of the verse, “To whom much has been given, much will be required.” (And how cool that your hubby is minister! I can’t believe I didn’t realize that until now.)
Happy Fourth!

What a great project– super important! We need to remember this is not a once-a-year need at Christmas time.
