Burlap Tic Tac Toe Bean Bags with the Cricut EasyPress

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.

Kids of all ages like playing tic tac toe. I know that all four of mine do! The games definitely do not last long, though. Tic tac toe is a pretty quick game. Over the years of teaching children’s classes and leading children’s activity groups, I’ve attempted to devise ways to stretch this fun game out an extra few minutes.

For instance, in some of the children’s classes that I teach, we have a lesson and then question and answer time at the end. I’ll divide the kids up into two groups. One group has “X” tic tac toe cards, and the other group has “O” tic tac toe cards. I made these cards with my Cricut machine, as seen in this tutorial. Each group only gets to place an “X” or an “O” after answering a question correctly. In order to win, the group must not only get three “X” or “O” in a row but also answer questions.

In the variation that uses these Burlap Tic Tac Toe Bean Bags, 2 children play at a time. One child has the “X” bean bags and the other child has the “O” bean bags. The kids play tic tac toe the traditional way, except they must stand a few feet back and attempt to toss the bag into the square of their choice. Use masking tape on the floor for the tic tac toe board or use twine to create a tic tac toe board outdoors for a fun outside game.

To make Burlap Tic Tac Toe Bean Bags, gather these supplies:

  • Cricut Maker
  • Cricut EasyPress 2, 6×7
  • Cricut EasyPress Mat, 8×10
  • Cricut StandardGrip Cutting Mat
  • Cricut Everyday Iron-On Lite in yellow
  • Cricut Everyday Iron-On Lite in white
  • Cricut weeding tool
  • Burlap
  • Fabric Fusion or other no-sew fabric adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Beans to fill the bags

Open up Cricut Design Space. The “X” and “O” letters are ready to cut out with my already designed file HERE in Cricut Design Space.

Send the letters to the Cricut machine. Follow the prompts in Cricut Design Space to cut. Be sure to mirror the Iron-on Vinyl and place the Iron-on Vinyl with the colored side down on the cutting mat.

Weed the non-needed parts from the letters. Set them aside.

Cut the burlap into 6″ by 6″ squares. Cut two squares for each burlap bean bag, 18 total.

Using the Cricut EasyPress, adhere one letter to one of each of the burlap squares. The Cricut EasyPress Interactive Guide is my favorite way to make sure that I am using the correct EasyPress heat temperature and time. I enter the type of Iron-on and the type of material, and the Interactive Guide tells me exactly how to adhere the Iron-on the best.

To assemble these no-sew, use the Fabric Fusion to secure one non-letter burlap square to a square with a letter. Only glue three sides at a time, leaving one end open to fill the bean bag. Fill the bag about halfway with beans. Use the Fabric Fusion to close the final opening.

Continue with all the bean bags.

This project is small enough to take and do on-the-go or for a girl’s night craft. With the Cricut EasyPress Tote, I can carry my Cricut EasyPress to any location. Check out this post to read all about the features of the Cricut EasyPress Tote!
