Several weeks ago we discussed being intentional in sharing our faith. Part of being intentional is to not only want to serve and do things for others, but to put these desires into action. Many of you know that my husband is a youth minister, and his formula is to offer our students a minimum of one service project a month for the youth group to get involved and make a difference. Throughout the year, I’ll be sharing some of the projects in which they partake to hopefully inspire you to be intentional.
My husband and I utilized the services of the Ronald McDonald House last year when our boys were in the NICU. The RMH is a great agency that helps so many parents throughout the year, and we were so grateful for them during our time of need. Our local RMH also runs two family rooms in the local hospitals for parents to have a reprieve from the daily hospital life while their kids are inpatients. My husband and I ate lunch in one of these rooms almost every day for a month! At the beginning of this year, I contacted our local RMH to see how our youth group could possibly give back this year. The volunteer coordinator suggested our students participate in their Valentine Campaign. The RMH collects homemade Valentine cards to decorate the family room during the holiday. I knew this would be perfect for our youth’s February Service Project!
I purchased a few packages of pre-made cards and collected some great craft supplies from CraftProjectIdeas.com that I had in my stash.
Time to make cards! Our students did a great job making the cards– even the boys pitched in a got creative! As part of the RMH policy, we were not allowed to write any scriptural reference in the cards, but we did write the families messages to let them know that we are praying for them.
If you are a youth leader looking for a service project idea, be sure to contact your local Ronald McDonald House. A few years ago our students did some outdoor work during the summer for them, so I know that there is always something that can be done! So if you need an idea on how to Be Intentional this year, service idea #1?? Ronald McDonald House!
