A whole new world has been opened up to me, and I’m totally hooked! If you are a frequent reader to my blog, then you may remember my awesome new Samsung Galaxy phone that I’ve been trying out for the last few months. I feel so connected with everyone. And now- a wi-fi camera ? I may turn into one of the most techy people that I know.
My husband and I purchased a point and shoot camera nine years ago. It has 8 megapixels and has served us well as a family. But we’ve been talking about getting a new camera for months. But with everything that we’ve had going on, a new camera has been on the back burner for sure. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that I would get to try out the Samsung WB200 from Walmart!
The Samsung WB200 is a camera unlike any that I’ve experienced. I purchased it for a great deal at Walmart. My shopping album covers the details of my shopping trip, but I will disclose that I snagged this camera for $179.99! I bought an SD card, as well. We had a few at home, but the camera does not come with one, so I purchased a new one just for this camera.
I was expecting a huge learning curve with this camera, but I was pleasantly surprised. I pulled the camera out of the box and (after charging) started taking pictures right away. The camera is lightweight and fits perfectly in my handbag- no need for an additional camera bag with this little beauty. Here are a few other features of the camera that I adore:
Full Manual Mode
Yes, I’m not kidding. A little camera with auto mode AND manual? How cool is that! I am not a master of manual by any means, but prior to this camera I’ve had to drag out the big DSLR for a nice manual picture. The screen on the camera is a hybrid touch screen that makes manual selection easy. On a walk with my daughter I tried out the auto vs. manual settings on a (eek!) black widow spider that had taken residence in our mailbox.
Once taking a picture, I can now edit the picture from the camera. This includes basic edits such as cropping and rotation, but also neat special effects. The below picture showcases how I quickly edited the same picture using various styles. I did all of these in about a minute.
With 18x optical zoom, I can take great pictures without having to get in all the action. I can’t wait to try the zoom out at places like the zoo this summer. Here’s an example of the long zoom in action at my home. The one photo shows how far away that I was standing- I couldn’t even see the flowers. But after a few clicks of a button, I was able to get a clear picture of the wild roses.
The wi-fi capabilities of this camera are amazing. The camera automatically found my home wi-fi network so that I was able to swiftly connect. Once connected to my home wi-fi, I simply had to pick the photos that I wanted to send wirelessly. I could email them or upload them to Facebook in seconds. For our family, this is such a user friendly feature. No more pulling out the SD card to upload pics to Facebook for friends and family to see. I can take blogger pictures and email them to myself for insertion in a blog post. Just a few clicks and the picture is already where I want it to be.
For users who have a Samsung Android phone, the phone and the camera are also able to be integrated. By downloading the Samsung Smart Camera App on my phone, I am able to use my phone as the viewfinder but take the picture from my camera. I can also swap photos between my camera and phone. Such a time saver!
The specs on the Samsung WB200 are great, especially compared to my nine year old camera.

I am excited to take this camera on the road with me this summer. There’s no better way to document the growing of our little family than with the Samsung WB200! For more information, check out Samsung on Twitter and Facebook.
