I never make New Year’s Resolutions. It’s the “don’t make promises I can’t keep” mindset. However, if I had to make a New Year’s Resolution this year, I know exactly what it would be. Many of my readers know that I’m pregnant with triplets, and one of my main concerns is that my daughter is going to feel completely neglected. I realize that my time with her with will be decreased significantly, but I want to make an extra special effort this year to spend special time just with her.
Afternoon breaks conjure thoughts of reading quietly in a chair for a bit of “me time”. But I want to include my daughter in this afternoon break time. So how about an afternoon tea/coffee party? For me, it’s an easy, simple idea that doesn’t cost much money and can be enjoyed at home. And if you live in a southern climate as I do, an afternoon tea/coffee party is ideal year round (we had one this week!).
I cannot express how thrilled my daughter was over our time spent together. I let her dress up in her fancy clothes, and she showered me with hugs and kisses. She proclaimed that I am “the best mommy ever!”. Want to host your own afternoon break tea/coffee party with your little one? Here’s my supply list and advice on what to serve!
Items needed for an Afternoon Break Tea/Coffee Party
- A Blanket
- Napkins
- Table and chairs (optional)
- A pretty centerpiece
- Milk for the little ones
- Turtle Brownies or Cream Cheese Brownies from The Bakery at Walmart
- Starbucks Caffe Verona Coffee purchased from Walmart
During this afternoon break, I took the opportunity to treat myself to coffee instead of milk, tea, or soda. It’s a sneaky way to jumpstart the rest of my day. We are consistent coffee drinkers at our house. We brew our coffee at home (can you say Keurig?). In spite of enjoying Starbucks breaks at their retail stores, I had never brewed Starbucks coffee at home. Brewing the coffee at home was so easy, and my house actually smelled like Starbucks!
I drink iced coffee, and I tried the Starbucks Caffe Verona Dark ground coffee alone at first. It was tasty. However, once I paired the coffee with the Turtle Brownies– wow! While the coffee alone was good, the Turtle Brownies from The Bakery at Wal-mart only made the coffee better. The milk chocolate taste from the brownies complimented the coffee so well. The flavors in the coffee were actually intensified by the ingredients in the Turtle Brownies. These two items make for a truly delicious pairing perfect for an afternoon party!
Currently, Walmart is making it easy to locate Starbucks Caffe Verona coffee and the delicious brownies that pair so well with it. Be on the lookout for the special display in The Bakery at Walmart.
Take time to relax this year, and include the little ones in that time, too. An afternoon break tea/coffee party with the delicious pairings of Starbucks Caffe Verona and Turtle Brownies is the way to accomplish this! And the little ones won’t mind a brownie either.

My daughter and I have had many a tea party- but never outside (cue “duh!” ringing in my head) and never with real sweets. We must do this… after all the snow melts, of course 🙂
First of all – I am WAY behind. congrats on your triple blessing! Secondly, I do brew Starbucks at home. I have never purchased their ground coffee, I have only had the whole beans, but we have a little burr grinder. When I grind it myself I make it in the French press. I got a Keurig for Christmas in 2011 from my dear husband – and I was apprehensive about having to buy K cups all the time. I know it is a money saver if you were stopping somewhere everyday and buying coffee, but I was already brewing it at home….BUT, the clever man got me one of the My K-cup attachments that lets you use your own ground coffee in the Keurig. Yay! I do keep some K cups on hand, and I treat myself once or twice a week to the fun of using one.
I have had Caffe Verona, yum..I actually also like their Blonde Roast quite a bit.
Now, to pull myself away from coffee talk – what a great idea you had to give your little one some mommy/daughter time. Bonus – a tea party is a “sitting down” activity,so you could get some rest as well!

How cute and adorable and precious is this! I’ve been eating up all of the “special time” with kids ideas as the husband and I get ready to have children. I love this special day you created for your daughter. And good luck with the triplets!
