Well, it’s taken 4 years, but my daughter will finally wear a hair band. She didn’t have much hair for the first few years, and I didn’t force the hair accessory issue. I’ve paid for it by having a little girl who wants nothing in or done to her hair. So don’t be surprised if you see pictures of her around on the blog that looks like her hair hasn’t been brushed in days. But she’s finally giving in to peer pressure and realizing that other little girls have hair accessories. Score one for peer pressure. So now I get to make hair bands and bows! I’m starting with this 10 minute Feather Hair Band. Feathers are cool, right?
Supplies:
- Grosgrain ribbon
- Blank Hair Band- These can usually be found at your local arts and crafts store. To be honest, I swiped a hair band that was falling apart and ripped the old ribbon off. Sometimes you just have to upcycle!
- 2 feathers
- 1 bow or accent piece- I picked this up at my local arts and crafts store in the jewelry/accessories section.
- Hot glue and hot glue gun
- Scissors
Begin by gluing the ribbon to the end of the hair band. While we will wrap the ribbon diagonally around the rest of the hair band, wrap then beginning portion straight and glue it in place.
Continue wrapping the ribbon around the hair band, diagonally, and hot gluing in place as you go along.
Determine where you want the feathers and accent bow to go. My feathers were a little long, so I clipped the end. Glue the feather on first, and then cover the ends with the bow accent.
You might have a few hot glue gun burns on your fingers after this, but that’s about as difficult as it gets.
